The North Northamptonshire Council technology team delivers technology services to over 3,000 colleagues and, with our transformation colleagues, we are on a path to deliver our digital transformation strategy. We are working to deliver multiple projects focused on migrating our traditional on-premise services into the Microsoft 365 environment as well as unifying our core network infrastructure across our entire estate (65+ different locations). Our goal is to deliver a single colleague user experience, regardless of whether they are working in one of our offices, at home, or delivering essential services in the community. As we move into the next critical phase of these projects, we are now looking for 2 senior infrastructure engineers to play a pivotal part in this journey. What will you be doing?
North Northamptonshire Council (known as NNC) is in the process of delivering their technology strategy and digital transformation, which involves a complete overhaul of our IT infrastructure and supporting network estate. The organisation currently operates from 68 different sites, delivers services to approximately 3,000 staff, and serves over 300,000 residents. The role of our senior system engineers sits within the infrastructure team and has a critical part to play in the support and ongoing development of our core infrastructure services. This role, and the team it sits within, form part of the final technical escalation point for the organisation and covers a broad remit, including: Datacentre management and support across both physical and IaaS based infrastructures Day-to-day technical support as escalation for service delivery incidents and problems Network support across all NNC owned sites (currently 68 in total) Management and support of backup and disaster recovery services Day-to-day management and support of cyber protection – including SIEM, End-Point protection, patching, pen testing, etc. Act as subject matter experts for transformation and tactical projects Technical ownership of Microsoft 365 services – e.g., Entra, InTune, etc. Support and management of the NNC data estate including on-premise and hosted data infrastructure The infrastructure team is part of the wider Technology, Digital and Data team, which is completely focused on building the best foundation to support the digital transformation journey as it evolves. About you
To enable you to thrive in this role, you will need to demonstrate that you have: A technology related degree or equivalent experience At least 3 years working in a relevant role Proven experience working in a large multi-site organisation Experience with Microsoft Hyper-V Experience with Microsoft 365 – Entra and InTune Experience with Storage Area Networks (e.g., Dell, IBM) Experience with Wide and Local area networks (e.g., SDWAN, Cisco Meraki, HP Aruba) Experience with Application and desktop virtualisation (e.g., Citrix, Microsoft RDS) Experience with Windows and Linux server management Experience working with third parties and coordinating incidents and changes A working knowledge of ITIL processes and demonstrable experience of working within a service desk operating model Experience working in both project and support-based roles Here at North Northamptonshire Council, we’re transforming for the better, using all our creativity and imagination to create the best life for our local people.
