ED Clinical Skills Facilitator

The CSF will work alongside the ED PDN to develop and maintain high standards of evidence-based nursing through staff education and clinical practice. They will facilitate the development of service-based educational programmes and act as a member of the senior nursing team demonstrating clinical expertise.

Main duties of the job

To work in accordance with the NMC: The Code: Professional Standards of Practice and Behaviour for Nurses and Midwives and the MTW policies and procedures.

To ensure own practice demonstrates current clinical knowledge.

To work clinically in all areas of ED on a regular, planned basis, supporting individual nursing staff in developing their practice.

To produce written accounts from each clinical facilitation.

In conjunction with the Practice Development Nurse, contribute towards S.M.A.R.T. goal setting if needed.

To work with the ED PDN to devise and deliver ED specific training such as Triage, ED specific induction, Trauma, band 5 development, minor injuries, Foundations of Emergency Care.

To work effectively as part of the multi-professional team, encouraging and supporting other health care professionals in the promotion and maintenance of an effective learning environment.

All successful applicants will be required to complete our corporate trust induction once a start date has been agreed.

Following your corporate induction, you will be expected to attend the Trust's 2-week Induction Programme for RNs, NAs, RMs, ODPs, and Paramedics. The programme is full-time (please email mtw-tr.professionalstandards@nhs.net if this is problematic) and will involve travel to both Trust sites. The programme includes supernumerary shifts in the clinical area, classroom-based sessions, and e-learning.

Qualifications

Essential

Registered General Nurse Practice Assessor / Teaching and Assessing qualification Evidence of continuous professional development Degree in Nursing, or willingness to undertake.

Desirable

Award in Education and Training - level 3 Certificate in Education and Training - level 4 Diploma in Education and Training - level 5 or 6

Experience/Knowledge

Essential

Post-registration clinical experience in an Emergency Department. Experience of supporting others. Experience of identifying and assessing learning needs.

Desirable

Experience at Band 6 within an Emergency department. Experience of delivering training.

Skills

Essential

Current ILS Triage and Minor injury competence Good teaching and assessing skills. Good IT skills. Good communication skills. Ability to prioritise workload and manage time efficiently. Able to provide constructive criticism in a positive and non-threatening way. Good presentation skills. Good interpersonal skills (confident and assertive able to communicate well on all levels). Able to demonstrate practical skills to others.

Desirable

ALS or equivalent Trauma experience PNA Evaluation skills Ability to develop an individualised orientation (Preceptorship) programme.
