What you'll do

In Viasat’s Data Platforms and Services division, we are looking for members of a product team that can design, write and deliver software services for our commercial aircraft, maritime vessels, and land mobile vehicles. Our software teams improve the availability, scalability, and operational efficiency of the services by building automation to prevent the recurrence of field issues.

The day-to-day

As a member of this team, you will influence new designs, architectures, and methods for large-scale distributed systems. As part of our DevOps model, you will develop the service and own it from cradle to grave including conducting periodic on-call duties using a follow-the-sun model. As a member of the reporting and monitoring platform team, you will own the software that enables Viasat teams and external partners to understand how our global In-flight Wi-Fi service is performing, and how it’s transforming the passenger experience. Your team will own the cloud-deployed services that are orchestrating the ingestion, transformation, distribution, and presentation of large, complex datasets from numerous sources, both internal and external to Viasat.

What you'll need

Related experience with commercial software development in building distributed applications - with a Master's/Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering or equivalent experience Strong working knowledge of one or more of: JavaScript/Typescript, HTML, CSS, React/Angular/Node.js, Python, SQL Experience designing, implementing, and consuming RESTful APIs Broad range of technology interests across different disciplines including computer and system architecture, web applications, performance analysis, distributed systems design, testing and verification technologies, data processing and networking Ability to work on distributed remote agile teams with a high degree of self-motivation and ability to work independently Excellent communication and collaboration skills to drive interaction with customers, peer developers and project managers Experience with or willingness to learn agile methodologies (Kanban, SCRUM, XP), modern software development environments and DevOps practices Experience with algorithms, data structures, complexity analysis, and software design Travel up to 10%

What will help you on the job

Familiarity with running software services at scale AWS Infrastructure, Airflow, Kafka and data streaming using Spark/Scala Understanding of networking fundamentals (OSI layers 2-7) Technical and software engineering background in the areas of cloud computing, enterprise computing, servers and virtualization technology and products Expertise in designing, analyzing, and troubleshooting large-scale distributed systems Experience in designing and implementing automated software component and integration tests Systematic problem-solving approach, coupled with a strong sense of ownership and drive #LI-Hybrid
