The Financial Accounting Manager will report directly to the Financial Controller and oversee the financial close process, ensuring the accuracy and compliance of the company’s financial reporting. This role includes managing the review of departmental P&Ls against budgets and forecasts, maintaining robust accounting policies and internal controls, and playing a key role in ensuring the company’s compliance with various tax regulations, including Senior Accounting Officer (SAO) and Corporate Criminal Offence (CCO) requirements.
Additionally, the Financial Accounting Manager will provide insights on company performance, collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, and develop and manage a talented team of financial accountants and assistants.
You'll be:
Financial Close and Reporting
• Overseeing the financial close process, working closely with the Management Accounting team.
• Taking ownership of the monthly balance sheet and cash flow statement, providing commentary on key variances such as working capital, CAPEX spend, and inventory to FC/FD and senior leadership.
• Ensuring balance sheet reconciliations are performed regularly and reviewed for accuracy.
• Taking ownership of the company’s accounting policies to ensure compliance with IFRS.
• Leading the building of a weekly cash flow forecast to support the operations of the business and provide useful insights to management.
Internal Controls and Compliance
• Maintaining and updating accounting policies and internal controls, ensuring compliance with IFRS and other regulatory requirements.
• Establishing and enforcing robust procedures to ensure the integrity of financial data and processes.
ERP Implementation
• Serving as one of the key finance/accounting subject matter experts (SMEs) for the ‘record to report’ cycle, supporting the successful go-live of the company’s new ERP system and ensuring alignment with financial reporting and operational needs.
Audit and External Relationships
• Serving as a key senior contact for external auditors, overseeing and managing the audit process and ensuring all necessary information is provided accurately and on time.
• Supporting the preparation of statutory accounts and other regulatory filings.
• Ensuring key accounting judgements are appropriately documented and supported with internal memos and relevant documentation.
Tax Compliance and Oversight
• Taking ownership of indirect and direct tax compliance with support from the Global Tax team.
• Reviewing various VAT returns, ensuring accuracy and timely submissions and monitoring compliance of the finance team with relevant tax regulations.
• Supporting the Global Tax team in collaborating with external advisors to ensure full compliance with tax obligations, identifying opportunities for optimisation, while ensuring adherence to HMRC’s SAO and CCO requirements.
Team Management and Collaboration
• Leading, managing and mentoring the financial accounting team, fostering their development and growth within the company.
• Collaborating closely with FP&A, Commercial Finance, Accounts Payable, Credit Control, and other departments to deliver seamless financial operations and insights.
Process Improvements
• Driving continuous improvement initiatives to streamline accounting processes, automate workflows and enhance efficiency across the finance function.
You'll have:
• A professional accounting qualification (e.g., ACA or ACCA) is essential.
• Significant experience in financial accounting and team management, ideally within a wholesale, e-commerce, or related industry.
• Strong knowledge of IFRS and the UK Companies’ Act.
• Experience with UK tax regulations, including VAT, SAO, and CCO compliance requirements, would be a plus.
• A proven ability to implement and maintain internal controls and accounting policies in a complex business environment.
• Excellent analytical skills with the ability to provide meaningful insights into financial performance.
• Strong leadership and mentoring skills, with experience managing and developing a high-performing team.
• Advanced Excel skills and experience working with large datasets and financial systems.
• Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and senior stakeholders.
• A proactive and solution-oriented approach, with a focus on driving efficiency and process improvement.
