The opportunity: At Leonardo, we are looking for experienced Software Design Engineers to develop and maintain the software design for the Radar system currently deployed on the Eurofighter Typhoon Fighter Jet. Typhoon remains the primary front line defence aircraft for the UK, Germany, Italy & Spain. As a result of significant customer demand for future technology enhancements, Leonardo is looking for Software Design Engineers to help us continue our invaluable contribution to the Typhoon programme. For this particular role, we are looking for people who have a strong knowledge of modern software design tools and who can take a pre-existing software product/design and generate a software design that can be updated and maintained as part of the ongoing radar development programmes. For this role, we are looking for candidates to join our software community in our brand-new Newcastle office that has a bit more a ‘start up’ feel to it. What you’ll do as a Software Design Engineer: Carry out an investigation and assessment of the Structured Analysis & Structured Design (SASD) toolsets available and identify a suitable software design tool that can be utilised by Leonardo UK (Edinburgh) to capture future design changes to the software design as the product continues to be developed. Take the current software baseline and reverse engineer a software detailed design document/model that is a detailed design representation of the current software product that can be maintained and updated as the software product continues to be developed. Deliver reports and documents, as well as generate and present technical presentations to project stakeholders. Be able to follow a project plan and identify key elements within the project plan. Report clear and concise progress to the Project and Engineering management. Work alongside and closely with the Software development team. What we need from you: Willingness to embrace a new software design toolset Good quality industry experience and working autonomously at a senior level. Experience with the full Software Development Lifecycle. Willingness and desire to work within a small multi-disciplined Integrated Project Team. Demonstrable experience in the following areas will help you stand out: Any experience using CADRE Teamwork. Experience with developing software designs for embedded systems. Past or current experience in heavily regulated industries such as Defence, Aerospace, Automotive, Medical, Oil and Gas or Financial. Working and delivering software designs using agile techniques such as Scrum and tooling such as Jira / Confluence.
