Job summary The Psychological Medicine and Older Adults Directorate is offering an exciting opportunity for a proactive and proficient Matron role in their Specialist community services. This role allows for close working and collaboration with senior management and clinicians in the future development of the directorate. The successful post holder will be based at the PMOA (Specialist) Community teams and will be an integral part of the Nursing, Quality and Assurance Team. The successful candidates will have exceptional communication, motivational and influencing skills, being able to influence and encourage teams to work across organisational boundaries whilst holding patient care at the heart of their work. Candidates will need to be passionate about the delivery of high-quality patient care and have experience in leadership. The post holder will be a 'self-starter' and be able to work autonomously as well as part of a multi-professional team. The post holder will deliver on the Matrons 10 responsibilities: Leading by example Making sure patients get quality care Ensuring staffing is appropriate to patient needs Empowering nurses to take on a wider range of clinical tasks Improving hospital/team cleanliness Ensuring patients' nutritional needs are met Improving patients' experience (to include supporting teams in identification of ligatures and management plans regarding existing ligatures where patients are seen in outpatients) Making sure patients are treated with respect Preventing hospital-acquired infection when patients are admitted to the ward Resolving problems for patients and their relatives by building closer relationships Person Specification

Qualifications Essential Registered Nurse (RN) with relevant mental health experience Extensive post-registration relevant continuing professional development Desirable Leadership course at level 5 or above Specialist qualification/training relevant to the clinical services Master's degree in nursing/Mental health field Experience Essential Experience at a senior management level of multi-professional collaboration and managing change Experience of setting, monitoring and evaluating standards of care Quality improvement methodology, assessing and teaching Relevant clinical experience in inpatient and community Mental health services Experience in completing audits and preparing reports/action plans Desirable Experience of working in specialist commissioned community and outpatient services Knowledge Essential Understanding of risk issues including Clinical and Health and Safety An appreciation of the unique needs of patients from diverse cultural communities Knowledge and understanding of Care Quality Commission standards and the quality improvement agenda for the directorate Desirable Training in Coaching skills Awareness of evidence-based practice in specialist clinical services Skills Essential Able to advise on clinical nursing issues, demonstrating an understanding of professional guidance, nursing policy and relevant Trust and national strategies Able to negotiate and influence in order to achieve objectives without direct line management Ability to establish credibility and good working relationships with representatives of external agencies and other stakeholders, and manage those relationships with sensitivity and compassion Desirable Able to work on several projects simultaneously using project management skills Ability to negotiate and reach compromises in a manner that inspires confidence and respect from others Values Essential Innovative, creative, flexible with a willingness to try something different Able to demonstrate a strong commitment to equal opportunities and equal access with a practical approach to ensure that policies are applicable to practice Can demonstrate a high level of perseverance, being committed to seeing plans through to their conclusion within agreed time scales Demonstrate a high degree of self-awareness, able to demonstrate appropriate use of authority, providing a clear and unambiguous role within the senior management team
