Are you interested in applying to become a Police Community Support Officer (PCSOs)?

Police Community Support Officers are at the very heart of our communities performing a vital role linking the local community and police service, ensuring everyone has the support they need.

We are now seeking applications from individuals from all areas of the community, and we would encourage applications from diverse minority groups.

Please note our current vacancies are within Cardiff and Vale and Mid Glamorgan sectors; please see the attached map for reference. As a result, we may prioritise applications from those areas as required.

Application criteria

Please note that you will be required to upload evidence of your level 2 English and Maths certificate at the same time as you submit your application. We will consider equivalent qualifications. If you are not in possession of a valid certificate, you must obtain one prior to commencing the application process or alternatively sit the online verbal reasoning and calculation test.

Think you’ve got what it takes? Here’s what else you need to know.

The applications process will go live at 9.00am on 20th January 2025 and close at 12.00 noon on 4th February 2025.

You will be invited to complete the national sift as part of the process. Please note this needs to be completed within 7 days of your invitation or by the closing time/date of the advert, whichever is the soonest. Please note the online tests are not compatible with handheld devices e.g., tablet or mobile phone, so must be completed on a desktop/Laptop computer. It is also advisable to register and complete the application process on the same device to avoid compatibility issues. If you have any technical issues whilst completing the tests, then the decision to reset the test will be at the discretion of South Wales Police. Please note that we can only reset the test once. Ensure you follow the instructions to complete and submit the online application and relevant certificate prior to the deadline. Late applications will not be considered. Applicants requiring reasonable adjustments/accommodation for the online test or during the PCSO interviews must email the HR-Recruitment mailbox. Following the completion of the online tests, you will be notified if you have passed or failed. If you pass, you will be invited to select an interview date and time.

South Wales Police may close campaigns early if we receive sufficient applications. Only fully completed applications will be considered at that point.

South Wales Police reserves the right to change the dates of tests or intakes as required and restrict candidate numbers attending the interviews due to organisational need.

Please refer to our website for full details about what the role entails, eligibility criteria, the application process and answers to many of the frequently asked questions you may have.

As an equal opportunities employer, we welcome applications from all suitably qualified persons. However, as black and minority ethnic (B.A.M.E) candidates are currently underrepresented within the Force, we would particularly welcome applications from B.A.M.E applicants. If you would like to discuss further the opportunities, support offered and the forthcoming recruitment campaign, please contact our Positive Action Team on positiveaction@south-wales.police.uk.

If you can’t find the answers you are looking for, e-mail HR-recruitment@south-wales.police.uk.
