Responsibilities: Plan, undertake and quality assure a range of simple, specialist, complex and highly complex diagnostic assessments undertaken within the department Provide verbal and written interpretation to referring medical teams on simple, specialist, complex and highly complex assessments Provide expert opinion and advise medical colleagues regarding appropriateness of referrals Record all collected data through adherence to pre-defined reporting procedure. To perform and report a range of basic, non-routine, and more complex respiratory investigations, contributing to the diagnosis and treatment of patients with pulmonary disease Take responsibility for ensuring your patient understands the investigations and is safe, making suitable adjustments and seeking help if needed from more experienced staff. Assist with the training and mentoring of the team in order to develop the expertise within the team in line with departmental objectives. Contribute to the business planning process for development and expansion of the service. Assist and deputise for the Lead personnel. Participate in the management of the team including annual appraisals, performance management and induction of new staff. Keep up to date with best practice and update protocols and SOPs as required. Take responsibility for the cleaning of all equipment and ensuring it is kept in working order, liaise with MEMS reporting and faults and problems promptly. Assist and participate in department audit, technical evaluation and research projects as required. Requirements of the Sleep Respiratory Physiologist: BSc Healthcare Science (Respiratory & Sleep) Evidence of CPD Experience of working in a respiratory physiology department Able to perform lung function tests without supervision Good computer literacy Basic report writing skills Good communication skills Good Organisational skills Understanding of specialist healthcare science activities acquired through training to master’s degree or equivalent level of knowledge or Scientific Training Programme (STP) graduate. 3 year’s post-qualification experience as Band 6 Respiratory physiologist Use knowledge from previous qualifications, training and leadership experience to educate and supervise junior staff in respiratory and sleep medicine.
