We have an exciting opportunity for a Staff Nurse to Join St Peter's Health Centre with our Dermatology Service.

You will be primarily based at St Peter's Health Centre with our Dermatology Service. However, you may be required to work in other designated locations of the Trust as well as your primary base. In particular, flexibility is required across the three main hospital sites (Leicester Royal Infirmary, Leicester General Hospital and Glenfield Hospital).

Main duties of the job

Responsible for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating programmes of evidenced-based nursing care to a group of patients. Assisting and contributing in the management and organization of the Dermatology Service. Actively contribute to setting and maintaining high standards of quality nursing care. Actively participate in the education, development and supervision of other staff members. Act as a clinical and professional role model, assessing and supporting students and learners on placement within the clinical area.

This role can involve frequent walking and standing for long periods of time. The post holder must have the physical capability to use manual handling equipment i.e. hoists, trolleys and wheelchairs.

Job description

Job responsibilities

The post holder will be expected to work without supervision. Designates responsibilities to other team members and actively contributes to performance review and the appraisal and personal development planning (PDP) process. Liaising with the multi-professional teams to provide an appropriate service to patients and their carers. Post holder will be expected to attend regular departmental team meetings. These will be held in the team base. To perform the necessary clinical procedures, e.g. surgical biopsies, removal of drains, wound dressings, bandaging, appropriate to the clinical specialty, following training and competency assessment as required, throughout the Dermatology Department. To participate in the provision of comfort measures for patients including the provision of fresh drinking water, snacks and preparation of hot and cold drinks as required. To contribute to effective communication within the multi-disciplinary team, receiving regular team updates and information for the effective day-to-day running of the department. To be responsible for the daily checking of the Capillary Blood Glucose monitors according to the manufacturers' instructions and recording these checks in the appropriate book. To be responsible for the daily checking of oxygen levels and suction pumps and recording in the appropriate emergency equipment checklists. To be responsible for the collection of Liquid Nitrogen from stores for clinic requirements.

Person Specification

Training & Qualifications

Essential

RN with Active UK NMC PIN, Minimum of 6 months acute experience within a hospital setting. Evidence of continuing professional development or evidence of reflective profile.

Desirable

Has or working towards a Recognised NMC teaching and assessing qualification or the equivalent (or expert witness qualification).

Experience and communication

Essential

Demonstrates satisfactory clinical expertise for the Grade applied for. Experience will be dependent on the post/department requirements at the time of recruitment. Able to present factual written and verbal information and deal with questions. Experience of organizing own workload.
