The opportunity
We are seeking an enthusiastic and skilled GCSE English Teacher to join our dedicated team. You will play a pivotal role in teaching both GCSE and Functional Skills English, empowering our students to unlock their full potential and achieve their academic goals. This is an opportunity to make a tangible difference in learners’ lives, whether they are first-time GCSE candidates or those returning to education to improve their qualifications.
In this rewarding role, you will design and deliver engaging, high-quality lessons tailored to meet the needs of diverse learners. By fostering positive relationships with students, you will create a supportive and inclusive classroom environment where every learner feels valued and motivated to succeed.
Your key responsibilities will include planning and preparing comprehensive schemes of work, lesson plans, and innovative teaching materials to support learner progression. You will also play an integral part in the department’s success by reviewing and enhancing the curriculum to ensure it remains relevant, challenging, and accessible. As part of your role, you will design varied assessment strategies to measure and support student progress, offering constructive feedback to help learners build confidence and achieve their full potential.

About you
We’re looking for someone who is truly passionate about teaching and committed to making a positive difference in students’ lives. You’ll have a deep understanding of GCSE and Functional Skills English, with the ability to deliver lessons that not only engage but also inspire students to reach their full potential. With a recognised teaching qualification, such as a PGCE or Cert Ed, you will be dedicated to supporting learners academically and personally, helping them overcome challenges and achieve their goals.
You’ll have excellent communication skills, allowing you to connect effectively with students, parents, and colleagues. Your organisational skills will enable you to plan well-structured lessons, track student progress, and assess their development accurately. You will use a proactive approach to ensure that each student receives the support they need to succeed, tailoring your methods to suit a variety of learning styles and needs.
As part of our friendly team, you’ll collaborate closely with colleagues to contribute to the growth of the department, sharing ideas to enhance the curriculum and teaching approaches. You’ll foster a learning environment that is inclusive, where students from all backgrounds feel valued and supported. Required
Teaching qualification (Cert Ed, PGCE or equivalent)
Degree (or equivalent) in a relevant subject
Level 2 Maths and English (Grade C or above)
2 years’ experience in an education setting
Experience teaching diverse learners
Experience developing learning materials
