Job summary Duties will be divided between the paediatric ward and the level 1 neonatal unit. You will be responsible, with the support of Consultants, for the day-to-day care of all medical admissions to the children's ward, and the provision of shared care for all surgical, orthopaedic and dental patients admitted to the paediatric ward. Other responsibilities include the ward rounds on the general paediatric wards and neonatal unit. Also to provide support to junior colleagues regarding routine examination of newborn babies in the maternity ward, resuscitation of the newborn in the delivery suites and the care of patients on the neonatal unit. The rota also includes outpatient sessions where new patients are seen with Paediatric Consultants. The department runs a consultant of the week system (with a separate consultant covering paediatrics and neonates during the week) and the successful post holder(s) will be well supported at all times. Although this post is not a formal training post, the post holder will be exposed to the same educational opportunities and supervision as the other junior doctors. We operate a full shift system and the post holder(s) will work a combination of normal working days, long days and night shifts including weekend work. To undertake duties as defined within the job description in so far as practicable and in agreement with your clinical director. To be responsible and managerially accountable for the reasonable and effective use of any Trust resources that you use and influence, and professionally accountable to the Medical Director. On commencement to ensure personal attendance at the Trust's Corporate Induction To participate in the Trust's statutory and mandatory training programme To be responsible for the clinical management of in and out patients under your care. To comply with Trust policies and procedures where appropriate. To ensure that all intellectual property rights of the Trust are observed.
