Due to career development, the Emergency Assessment Unit (EAU) has a vacancy for a highly motivated and enthusiastic deputy sister or charge nurse. EAU is a 24 bedded area caring for medical patients, including 4 escalation beds. We take patients directly from UTC, SDEC, clinics, and GPs. We work closely with the whole MDT and have our own ward-based OTs and Physios. Alongside acute medical admissions, we care for patients requiring complex discharge planning and work closely with the social work department. As a Band 6, you will be supported with any learning/development you may require. Please note this position is not due to start until on or after 01-May-2025. Main duties of the job

Duties will include clinical responsibilities such as assessing, planning, delivering, and evaluating nursing care and supporting colleagues in providing care of the highest standard. Working with and leading the multi-disciplinary team, you will need excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. You will be a role model, both clinically and professionally, with the ability to motivate and manage, adapting to rapidly changing situations. You will frequently be the designated shift co-ordinator and will be expected to deputise for the Department Manager. You will support the ward manager in completing appraisals, managing absences, and clinical education. Person specification

Experience

Experience in an acute environment. Acted as ‘shift co-ordinator’ / Bleep Holder in an acute environment. Recent experience of implementing change and nurse-led initiatives. Experience of mentoring students and acting as preceptor to newly qualified nurses. Participated in the induction of new staff. Reported and responded to clinical and non-clinical incidents appropriately. Experience in clinical audit. Experience in acute emergency assessment areas. Performed staff appraisals and participated in recruitment. Participated in the investigation and resolution of complaints. Skills and Knowledge

Extended competencies (e.g., cannulation, venepuncture, ECG recording). Awareness of the dignity in care agenda. Ability to teach to all grades of staff. Knowledge of budget management. Qualification

Registered Nurse Level 1. Supervisor and Assessor / Mentorship. Evidence of further education/CPD. ILS certificate. Health roster training.
