We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic scientist with experience of working in a laboratory environment. The role will be within biology casework, requiring examination of exhibits for blood/BPA, Semen, Saliva, Cellular material and recovering of contingency evidence. The candidate will be expected to follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) as well as defined strategies from the Reporting Officer’s. Shift work, On-call working and Bank Holiday cover will be a requirement of the Examiner role upon completing the required training. Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities Examinations of a variety of exhibits to standard operating procedure requirements and required turnaround times Laboratory and exhibit management Complete training, self-study and maintain set KPIs and competences Reporting in accordance with set turnaround times Qualifications Knowledge, Experience and Technical Skills At least one year work experience ideally in a laboratory setting Demonstrate good organisational skills Have high levels of resilience and flexibility and the ability to work to deadlines Demonstrate ownership of issues and their resolution Communicate and work proactively with others (both colleagues and customers), focusing on a collective goal Embrace continuous improvement projects with active involvement Ability to work in highly stressful situations and dealing with details of distressing cases. Preferred Degree level education Driving licence Previous work experience in a commercial forensic setting Additional Information Due to the highly sensitive nature of the work, applicants should note that security clearance is required for this role. To gain security clearance you must have five years continuous residency in the UK. Security clearance is undertaken by a third party to police personnel vetting standards (NPPV/3 and SC), as such any criminal convictions may prevent you from gaining security clearance. Due to the nature of the work we undertake on our EFS Midlands site, for employees based at EFS Midlands or likely to attend EFS Midlands as part of their role you must inform us if you come into contact with any firearms or ammunition through work or any other reason as there will be precautions you will need to take in order to enter the premises. This also applies to persons involved in clay pigeon shooting, and those who regularly use any cartridge-based tools such as nail/stud guns. Please provide details on your application.
