Job summary The post is for a Clinical Fellow (SpR grade) in Ophthalmology, with an interest in Eye Casualty. This post is designed to provide higher sub-speciality training in Eye Casualty based at the Leicester Royal Infirmary within the University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust. This post does have some community hospital working. Please note there may be the opportunity for the successful candidate to have some cataract operating in the timetable. This is subject to discussion on appointment and availability of lists. The post includes Emergency Eye casualty sessions, Yag/Argon Laser, and General Ophthalmology. You may be required to join the registrar on-call rota subject to service demands. This post also aims to support a range of Ophthalmic sub-specialties. Main duties of the job To provide Ophthalmology services at the University Hospitals of Leicester. A specialty interest in Eye Casualty is required. To provide Ophthalmology services via emergency eye casualty and outpatient clinics. To work flexibly and cooperatively with other Ophthalmologists to maximize flow in the emergency department and outpatient clinics. To ensure the provision of good standards of practice and care as described in the GMC Guidance 'Duties of a Doctor' are followed at all times; and that bad practice is reported. To actively participate in audit. To work with the CMG management team to ensure that services are delivered efficiently and reflect best practice. To work closely with other specialties, departments, and outside agencies to deliver the objectives of the Division and Clinical Business Unit. To take responsibility for ensuring that critical clinical incidents are reported in a timely manner. To participate in yearly appraisal and job planning processes. To undertake Mandatory & Statutory training as determined by the Trust and Clinical Business Unit. To support allied health professionals in development with consultant support. Training & Qualifications Essential Full and specialist registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) or eligible for specialist registration within six months of interview. Desirable Higher academic qualification (fellowship/s within the subspecialty). Experience Essential Adequate training in Ophthalmology. Excellent clinical skills and experience requisite to meeting all aspects of the Job Plan. Ability to apply sound clinical judgment to problems. Demonstrates clear, logical thinking/analytical approach. Emergency eye casualty experience. Desirable Evidence of a special interest in Eye Casualty and expertise that complements those of other doctors in the Department.
