Role and Responsibilities About the role We are currently recruiting for an experienced Software Engineer to join our Simulator Engineering team who are responsible for the maintenance and upgrade of our Helicopter Simulators based at RAF Benson. In this role you will be providing technical and operations support including software configuration, control maintenance, fault finding and some support software development for our flight simulators. This is an exciting role with a varied list of tasks - you could be developing software code, scripts and other system configurations to implement new flight systems to the simulator, integrating new functionality, or performing software investigations and fault finding to maintain the availability of the simulators for flight training. Key responsibilities Executing assigned software development tasks and coding of software. Performance of various testing such as debugging and robustness testing. Provide accurate estimates for completion of software tasks identifying potential risks. Investigate faults from simulator users. About you We are looking for people with: The ability to demonstrate initiative, creativity and resourcefulness in an agile development team. The capability to work unsupervised at times as well as part of a team. Experience writing C/C++ or C# or Fortran. Experience scripting with BASH/CSH. Experience with UNIX/Linux administration. Experience with TCP/IP and Network troubleshooting. Experience using an IDE such as Microsoft Visual Studio. Experience with Windows. Experience with Xterm and XWindows. As part of our investment in skills and ongoing growth we use Pluralsight alongside on-the-job training, so the ideal candidate needs to be happy to use this platform and type of learning to develop their skillset. It would be an advantage to have exposure to modelling and simulation or defence and security background along with supporting service-based architectures. In addition, experience of networking standards such as DDS, ZeroMQ would also help in this role. Please note: Applicants must have the right to live and work in the UK. Some activities will require travel in the UK and abroad and occasionally require overtime and weekend working. Applicants must be able to obtain or transfer Security Clearance which the Company sponsors (applicants must have lived continuously in the UK for the past 5 years in order to obtain security clearance) or currently holds NATO SC level Security Clearance that can be transferred from overseas to the UK.
