This is an exciting opportunity for a Practice Nurse to join our team at The Prince of Wales Surgery working in both our Dorchester & Portesham sites. The practice is currently looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Practice Nurse, with primary care experience to join our friendly and professional team on a part-time basis 20 - 25 hours per week. We are looking for someone who will share our commitment to providing excellent healthcare to our patients. Job Responsibilities: Cytology Wound and ulcer care including removal of sutures and staples Day to day management of chronic diseases clinics such as Diabetes including maintaining disease registers, management of condition, referrals to other members of the primary care team, audit outcomes of care against standards and initiate changes as necessary Routine immunisations and vaccinations schedule Requesting pathology tests, for example urine culture, swabs, bloods Contraception advice including Depo and pill checks Administration of injections including B12 Infection control monitoring Day to day use of recall systems/processes Venepuncture About us The Prince of Wales Surgery is a 6 GP Partner and 2 salaried GP training Practice and we have recently merged with Portesham Surgery. We have a well established, supportive and friendly Nursing Team comprising of 5 Practice Nurses and 3 Healthcare Assistants here and 1 Phlebotomist. Required: Registered Nurse currently registered with the NMC Experience of Primary Care including childhood and travel vaccinations, cytology, wound care. Excellent interpersonal skills IT Literate Implementation of confidentiality and GDPR Ability to work as a team Demonstrate enthusiasm to developing nursing and health care skills Ability to work under pressure Able to work in a changing environment Able to use own initiative Flexibility of working hours Experience of SystmOne Clinical System Desirable: Diabetes qualification Experience of SystmOne Clinical System Qualifications Essential: Registered Nurse Nursing degree or equivalent experience Desirable: Post graduate diploma or degree (Primary Care) NMC's 'Academic Assessors', 'Practice Supervisors', and 'Practice Assessors' accreditations Personal Qualities Essential: Polite and confident Flexible and co-operative Motivated, forward thinker High levels of integrity and loyalty Sensitive and empathetic in distressing situations Ability to work under pressure / in stressful situations Able to communicate and understand the needs of the patient Commitment to ongoing professional development Effectively utilise resources Punctual and committed to supporting the team effort Clinical Knowledge & Skills Essential: Immunisations (flu, routine, childhood, B12, travel) Wound Care / Treatment of small injuries / Removal of sutures & staples Womens health (Cervical cytology, contraception, etc.) Dressings Ability to record accurate clinical notes Ability to work within own scope of practice and understanding when to refer to GPs Understanding of Extended brief interventions (NICE guidelines) Desirable: Diabetes Trained Travel medicine Mental Health ECGs Venepuncture Requesting pathology tests and processing the results, advising patients accordingly Asthma Spirometry Understands the importance of evidence-based practice Broad knowledge of clinical governance Understands the requirement for PGDs and associated policy Experience Essential: 6 months relevant experience working in a primary care environment in the last 2 years Desirable: Experience of chronic disease management General Skills Essential: Excellent communication skills (written and oral) Strong IT skills Clear, polite telephone manner Competent in the use of Office and Outlook Competent in the use of patient record management systems: EMIS / SystmOne Effective time management (Planning & Organising) Ability to work as a team member and autonomously Good interpersonal skills Ability to follow clinical policy and procedure Desirable: Competent in other portals: Experience with clinical risk management Evidence, research and development - has an enquiring approach to practice to ensure best quality care is offered within any constraints of the service
