Job summary Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, assist in the smooth running of patients attending the Outpatient department, helping patients and their families to undertake all Diagnostics tests including Venepuncture/Phlebotomy. The post holder will work collaboratively and co-operatively with others to meet the needs of patients and their families. Main duties of the job With support from the Registered Nurse, participate fully in the delivery of planned nursing care. Undertake general patient observations including saturation levels, general appearance, BP and Temperature. Undertake venepuncture. At the direction of the Registered Nurse, undertake a range of clinical duties and skills such as simple dressings, collection of patient specimens and ordering diagnostic tests. Assist with the needs of patients/visitors, who may be distressed or require assistance and communicate in a manner that is appropriate to them and the situation. Work collaboratively with others in the department to ensure that patients' needs are met. Assist with the transfer of patients with minor dependency, as directed to other Clinical Departments for investigations or treatment ensuring appropriate equipment is available prior to transfer. Participate in daily and weekly cleaning schedules and inform the Team Leader if unable to complete cleaning shift. Carry out the following tasks under the specific direction of the Registered Nurse - process blood samples using the nursing staff, Trust porters or the Pod system. Assist the RGN/Doctor in obtaining Blood Cultures or Suture removal/Dressing of Post-operative wounds. About us
