Job summary The Haematology Department is seeking a motivated, approachable, and team-oriented individual to join as a part-time Medical Secretary (Monday to Friday). The successful applicant will play a vital role in providing comprehensive secretarial and administrative support to consultants, Anticoagulant Specialists, and the Haematology Nurse. This role requires a proactive and responsible individual with a strong commitment to ensuring the efficient running of the haematology office. A positive attitude and excellent organisational skills are essential to manage daily priorities and address unexpected queries and demands effectively. Flexibility is also required, as the role involves occasional travel to the St Albans site. Main duties of the job The department is looking for someone who can: Provide a complete confidential secretarial service for the consultants, of both a clinical and non-clinical nature, regularly transcribing complex medical terminology within a high-volume workload, including the use of audio, together with associated photocopying and filing. Deal with telephone and personal enquiries from patients, GPs, other health professionals, exercising independent judgment and initiative, giving information and non-clinical advice, and ensuring accurate messages are conveyed and appropriate action taken. Give out Pathology results from the ICE system to GPs, Consultants, and other medical Professionals. Manage Haematology Generic Emails, Electronic Referral System (eRS) waiting list functions, providing the consultants with appropriate information regarding referrals and appointments. Prioritise workload under the direction of the office manager and in the absence of other team members, to provide cover for essential tasks.
