Job summary We are looking to appoint to a Whole-Time Locum Consultant Otolaryngologist with an interest in General ENT and Otology/Neurotology employed by Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust for a fixed term of 12 months. The post will be based at the Royal Hallamshire Hospital, Sheffield. We welcome applications from candidates across the full spectrum of experience, from those who have recently completed training to those who have well-established careers. Any candidate who is unable for personal reasons to work full-time will be eligible to be considered for the post; if such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis with the Trust in consultation with consultant colleagues. Should any further vacancies arise, shortlisted applicants will be considered. Main duties of the job The appointee will, together with consultant colleagues, be responsible for the provision of general ENT services to the Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. On-call is currently provided by 7 Sheffield-based consultants Monday to Friday, with the 3 Barnsley consultants. Appointments are made to the Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and the person appointed is required to be sufficiently flexible to undertake their main clinical duties at any of the sites within the Trust and/or to change their base hospital. The successful candidate will work according to the terms and conditions of the national consultant contract. ENT, Audiovestibular Medicine & Hearing Services are managed as a single directorate at Sheffield Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. The Directorate has particular expertise in the management of many sub-specialty areas including Oncology, Otology/Neurotology, Rhinology, Aural Surgery and also works in partnership with colleagues in the Sheffield Children's Hospital to support paediatric ENT services. Qualifications Essential Full registration (with a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC). Name on the specialist register for relevant specialty or eligible within 6 months of the date of the interview. If an applicant is UK trained, they must also be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview. Desirable Higher degree Research Essential Ability to critically assess published research and incorporate it into clinical practice where appropriate Desirable Publications in Peer-reviewed journals. Teaching and Training Essential Experience of teaching student doctors and doctors in training at all levels Continuous Professional Development Essential Evidence of participation in CME/CPD in the last 12 months Desirable Maintenance of a CPD diary or portfolio Personal Attributes Essential Demonstrates behaviour consistent with PROUD values (see appendix) Good oral and written communication skills Clinical Governance and Audit Essential Experience in performing clinical audit Desirable Completion and publication of a substantive audit project or service improvement project Management and Administration Essential Evidence of the understanding of the systems and structures of NHS Management Clinical Experience Essential Skills and competence in the management of patients with otolaryngological conditions. Has developed (or is willing to develop) a complementary area of sub-specialist interest in Neurotology especially in facial nerve reanimation Understanding of evidence-based medical practice.
