The food contact team at Smithers has expert knowledge of international food contact regulatory requirements. We offer a comprehensive range of migration testing, taint testing, and consultative support to help our clients comply with current regulations. We currently have a vacancy for a part-time Analytical Chemist to cover a period of maternity leave for approximately 12 months. The role is for 2.5 days (18.75 hours) per week; some flexibility to the working pattern may be considered for the right candidate. This vital role will primarily take responsibility for undertaking chemical tests on food packaging materials to ensure that they comply with all legal requirements and do not contaminate foods. The successful candidate will possess the following skills and experience: Graduate with a degree in Chemistry, or other Chemical Science with an Analytical Chemistry component. Alternatively, we welcome non-graduates who have suitable laboratory experience with good GCSEs and A-Levels (A-C Grade)/HNC or equivalent. Previous experience of working in an analytical laboratory is essential. Familiar with practical analytical techniques - at least one of GC, HPLC, GC-MS. Working within an ISO 17025 accredited laboratory would be advantageous. Be a part of our fundamental team in ensuring food packaging safety across the world.
