Job overview Working hours are flexible across 5 days for part-time hours, with a minimum of 3 days for the right candidate. An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Occupational Therapist to join and develop their role in the existing Specialist Pulmonary Rehabilitation Team at The South Tees NHS Foundation Trust. As a Band 6 Occupational Therapist within the Trust, the postholder will also be part of the wider Integrated OT service. This unique partnership between Health and Social care in South Tees focuses on improving service quality and eliminating barriers between health and social services. Pulmonary Rehabilitation is receiving significant funding and development as part of the NHS Pulmonary Rehabilitation 5-year vision, making this an excellent time to join this team and contribute to these changes, including the Pulmonary Rehabilitation Services Accreditation Scheme (PRSAS). The OT role is evolving within pulmonary rehab, previously led by physiotherapists. As the OT, you will develop the service to include specific anxiety management, fatigue management, and ensure functional needs of patients are met through rehabilitation. The team provides pulmonary rehabilitation to individuals and groups in various locations, including patients' homes, offering 20 classes per week across hospital-based and leisure center venues. Main duties of the job Provide effective and efficient respiratory therapy to patients over eighteen years of age in Middlesbrough and Redcar & Cleveland localities, within the framework of clinical governance. Perform skilled therapeutic assessments of patients for Pulmonary Rehabilitation who present with diverse and complex chronic physical and psychological problems. Deliver Pulmonary Rehabilitation exercise and education programs, anxiety and fatigue management using evidence-based, client-centered principles to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate interventions. Reduce acute admissions, exacerbations, and increase capacity in primary care by optimizing treatment and management of breathlessness, COPD, and other respiratory conditions. Work across different venues and locations in the community, including patients' homes. Enable individuals to maximize their independence and management of long-term respiratory conditions. Person specification Experience Essential criteria Experience working in a service providing rehabilitation Experience working within the NHS Experience working with respiratory patients Experience working with patients requiring fatigue management or energy conservation Desirable criteria High level of experience working with patients with respiratory conditions Qualifications Essential criteria Hold a degree or relevant diploma in Occupational Therapy Current HCPC registration Knowledge & Skills Essential criteria Theoretical knowledge and applied clinical practice in a broad range of OT and rehabilitation areas.
