Our Company Changing the world through digital experiences is what Adobe’s all about. We give everyone—from emerging artists to global brands—everything they need to design and deliver exceptional digital experiences! We’re passionate about empowering people to create beautiful and powerful images, videos, and apps, and transform how companies interact with customers across every screen. We’re on a mission to hire the very best and are committed to creating exceptional employee experiences where everyone is respected and has access to equal opportunity. We realize that new ideas can come from everywhere in the organization, and we know the next big idea could be yours! Introduction Do you have a passion for coding user interfaces, web standards, and building complex systems? Adobe Design is seeking a Senior Design Engineer to join the Spectrum design system’s Platform Engineering team as part of the Spectrum-CSS project. Platform Engineering bridges design and technology, providing Adobe with tools, infrastructure, and services that enable design precision and consistent, fully accessible user experiences, across a range of products. Your role will be to help build and maintain the Spectrum-CSS project, which is an open-source, framework-agnostic implementation of Spectrum for the web, designed to be standards-based and framework agnostic. Senior team members are also expected to participate in the overall Spectrum ecosystem to evolve both design and engineering by working directly with product teams. This includes doing outreach about Spectrum, discovery around features and improvements, process planning, execution strategy, and validation of accuracy through visual and cross-browser testing. Overall, you will have direct ownership and play a key role in ensuring Spectrum is available for consumers in a timely, stable, and scalable way. In this role, you will: Build cool things!

Our team works on a diverse and living toolset that solves real problems for designers and engineers, both within the Spectrum system and in partnership with Adobe’s product teams. Have meaningful ownership.

You’ll make important decisions about how we build and grow, and have a strong say in what we build next. Your ability to find, assess, and develop new opportunities will be essential to our team. Grow.

You’ll sharpen your skills and learn how to take ownership of important aspects of our system. What you’ll bring to the team Must-Haves: • Deep experience around CSS architecture and practices, such as pre and post processors, cross-browser concerns, layout, current and upcoming standards, responsive design, and animation. This must include extensive knowledge of web accessibility, WAI standards, and WA testing. (6+ years) • Solid knowledge of the ecosystem, especially practices for npm package development, versioning, and publishing (4+ years) • Experience working on a fast-paced, multi-person open source project, with a focus on git and GitHub contribution workflow and in-depth peer code review • A pragmatic, collaborative and open-minded outlook, and a high degree of comfort working in an environment with complex demands from multiple stakeholders. • Practice working closely with designers, including a strong understanding of how to convert a design into code. Nice-to-Haves: • Expertise with the concepts behind design systems and how they are being applied in modern product development, especially as this relates to web technologies. • Hands-on usage of build, test, and release methods; such as compilers, linting, CI/CD tooling, software testing and validation techniques, and modern dev-ops practices. How to apply To be considered for this role, please submit a resume. Include examples of work you feel demonstrates you have the skills needed to succeed. Pay within this range varies by work location and may also depend on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
