Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust is seeking to increase its capacity to embed public health across the organisation through the recruitment of a second Consultant in Public Health, including programmed time working with medical undergraduate education. We are looking to appoint an innovative and enthusiastic Consultant who will collaborate with the existing Consultant in Public Health (Head of Public Health) and the wider public health team to provide leadership, expertise, and population insight into care planning and delivery. The post holder will lead a defined portfolio of work, develop and support new ways of working to promote prevention and equity of access, experience, and outcomes as part of the organisation's core business, ensuring effective collaboration with the wider system. The role involves progressing the Trust's contribution to health improvement and reducing health inequalities for patients, families, staff, and the wider population. Expectations include managing multiple and changing demands and meeting tight deadlines. A high level of intellectual rigour, political awareness, negotiation and motivation skills, and flexibility are required. The role involves working in partnership across multiple organisations including the NHS, Local Government, and voluntary, community and social enterprise sector partners across the Integrated Care System. The post holder must maintain effective relationships, understand other cultures, and advocate to enable effective working across organisational boundaries. Additionally, the post holder will contribute to and influence system-wide strategies, plans, and programmes, working closely with Local Authority Public Health teams to ensure a coherent and strategic approach to influencing the wider determinants of health and improving population health across the health economy. This role includes role modeling compassionate and inclusive leadership to shape a collective leadership culture within the trust, demonstrating a leadership style that engages, enables, and empowers others, uses coaching to promote ownership of learning and quality improvement, and facilitates team working and collaboration within teams, departments, and across organisational boundaries.
