The main duty of the career orientation counselor is to help senior school students identify career opportunities, engage in meaningful discussions and presentations with career leaders in their fields, identify and understand university courses that offer pathways in chosen careers, develop skills to make application to universities and colleges for their chosen career paths and to assist in those application processes with counseling and written needs. AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Higher education and career orientation Use aptitude and achievement assessments to help students evaluate their interests, skills, and abilities. Communicate with families to discuss the student’s competence and the potential higher education field regarding the family’s preference and financial capacity. Guide students through making decisions about their future career, such as choosing a profession and the type of degree to pursue. Help students to choose the appropriate A-Level subjects based on their higher education option. Support students to approach appropriate programs/competitions/activities to obtain the necessary certificates, credentials, and skills, which, in turn, will benefit their chosen higher education application. Introduce job fairs and allow visiting career offices to give presentations and career events at campus. Arrange job site visits off campus as required. Arrange for visiting professionals who represent their industries to give school talks. 2. University application Identify the pros and cons of each university and costings for students to understand. Conduct lessons in guiding students in correct methods to apply to chosen universities. Assist students in locating and applying for university, by teaching them strategies that will be helpful in finding openings and preparing a résumé. Teach and then review the students’ Personal Statement and advise necessary adjustments to improve the selling points of each applicant. Support school teachers and provide advice on how to write Recommendation Letters. Arrange opportunities for CV writing and interview preparation and practice for G11 and 12 students. Follow up on students’ applications and keep students posted/informed on offers/rejections by the institutions. 3. Other tasks Set up a careers room with a permanent display and market industries and jobs as well as a range of university information guides that inform pathways. Plan and coordinate careers events in school – e.g. Careers Fair, Enterprise Days, Next Steps evening, and careers talks. Advise parents and students of possible university pathways and alternative options. Advise students and parents of forthcoming events relating to Career Orientation and University Application, allocating places and processing appropriate paperwork. Develop links with employers, providers, and alumni. Other tasks as assigned by Line Manager. JOB SPECIFICATIONS University graduates. Fluent in English speaking and writing. 2. Related experience At least 3 years of experience in Education counseling. Experience at international schools is a plus. Prefer and have an advantage if you have knowledge about overseas study consulting in Australia, US, UK, Canada, or New Zealand (around 1 year of experience). 3. Competencies (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities) Good communication in English. Excellent communication, explanation, and customer orientation. Good office computer skills. Hard-working. Active & Flexible.
