Applications are invited for a Trust Grade for Ophthalmology at the Sussex Eye Hospital, Brighton, starting March 2025. The Sussex Eye Hospital within University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust is a specialist eye hospital and the main training hub of the Kent, Surrey and Sussex Deanery/School of Ophthalmology. We serve a population of approximately 750,000 through the hub at the Sussex Eye Hospital and the spoke unit at Princes Royal Hospital. Main duties of the job
The clinical duties of the post include the following: General Clinics Glaucoma Clinics Operating lists (surgical glaucoma and cataract) Eye Casualty Laser clinic In addition to most general ophthalmic services, the Sussex Eye Hospital offers highly specialised ophthalmology tertiary care. With a large number of Surgical and Medical Retina patients, Uveitis patients, and Anterior Segment patients, there are many complex glaucoma cases to manage as well as the more straightforward glaucoma suspects, OHT, and stable glaucoma patients. The post holder accepts that they will also perform duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances at the request of the appropriate consultant, in consultation, where practicable, with their colleagues, both senior and junior. Education and Qualifications
Full GMC Registration with a licence to practice Higher Degree Clinical Experience and Skills
High level of clinical experience in all aspects of Ophthalmology Evidence of personal patient centred outcomes/audit Able to perform cataract surgery Understanding of clinical risk management An ability to communicate well with patients and staff Breadth of experience in and outside specialty Organisation & Planning
Experience and ability to work in multi-professional teams Evidence of managerial skills: Achievements / Course attended Understanding of NHS / Clinical governance / Resource constraints. Teaching Skills
