The post holder will work as a self-directed practitioner, with a key role to play in the organisation and management of clinical trials, as well as the management and development of the cross specialty research delivery team.

With support from the Clinical research delivery manager, the post holder will assume day-to-day responsibility for the team, being an integral part of the management team and be at hand for advice, problem solving and analytical decision making.

They will be highly visible in their role, leading and managing the research nurses to ensure all staff remain focused in delivering safe, high quality, evidence based care to patients.

The post holder will promote the positive image of the Research Team and the Trust by being a role model, having a clear vision, and using direct leadership to ensure organisation and management of clinical trials.

The role will involve translating Trust and Department objectives, policies and procedures into effective action and displaying a consistently positive commitment to the Research Team's success.

The post will involve leading on the selection, deployment, training and development of staff in the Research team. Management of sickness absence and annual leave requests will also be part of the role.

Main duties of the job Act as an expert resource in providing in-depth knowledge on aspects pertaining to acquiring and maintaining informed consent. Leading role in the development and updating of local policies and procedures, including Standard Operating Procedures relating to research. Takes a leading role in managing research studies within the Centre, whilst conducting and maintaining their own portfolio of studies. Takes a leading role in activities of professional forums and networks. Work with Clinical Research Associates and support research team members during the monitoring process and in responding to recommendations. Facilitates good working relationships within the team. Responsible for ensuring the research team attend Investigator Meetings where appropriate. Actively promote and maintain confidentiality, sharing accurate and timely information, in line with the Information Governance agenda. Ensure the Department is a learning environment for all staff. Ensure self and staff act as a patient advocate. You have a responsibility to ensure that all people that you have contact with during the course of your employment, including general public, patients, relatives and staff are treated equally in line with the Trust's Equal Opportunities Policy.

Educated to BSc level or equivalent experience. Evidence of recent continuous professional development. GCP Training.

Leadership qualification.

Knowledge and Skills Essential

Current knowledge of the NIHR. Recent experience of handling complex relationships. Ability to organise, prioritise and co-ordinate work of self and others. Knowledge of how research works within the NHS.

Desirable

Venepuncture skills.

Experience Essential

Significant and current experience in the NHS with a substantial amount of clinical experience specifically within research. Previous experience at Band 6 or above. Current and substantial delivery research experience with knowledge of processes, practices and governance.
