DXC Technology has a great opportunity for an experienced Back Up Engineer based on our client's site in Edinburgh. You will be responsible for the proactive and reactive maintenance and management of the backup infrastructure ensuring service levels are maintained and that the backup infrastructure is robust and available. The role will require a strong work ethic and a flexible, pragmatic approach to working. The ideal candidate will have great communication skills and a keen interest in innovation alongside a willingness to expand their knowledge across the technology. They should be able to work independently as well as part of a team, engaging with other teams and managers. Key Responsibilities: Perform daily monitoring and validation of backup operations for over 200 servers across various platforms. Investigate and resolve backup failures and issues. Production and review of daily reports and addressing backup failures. Perform a full range of ITIL service delivery skills, e.g., Incident and Problem Management, Change Management. Liaise with colleagues and those in other teams to resolve incidents. Perform Root Cause Analysis where appropriate, proposing and implementing long-term fixes. Log hardware calls with vendors for any failed infrastructure. Proactive management and maintenance of the backup infrastructure. Support the development of backup strategies in alignment with business requirements. Document and maintain backup and recovery procedures. Skills/Experience: SC Cleared or eligible for vetting. Hardware Management of Storage/Backup Platforms. Storage Monitoring and Management. Knowledge of backup and recovery technologies. Knowledge of Backups Technologies: Veritas NetBackup (All versions up to 10.2) Native, VMWare & NDMP Style backups. Knowledge of IBM Tape Libraries Overland Management. NetApp, Dell EMC Storage Knowledge. Basic knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Redhat Linux, Solaris, VMS technologies including best practices. Ability to learn and adapt to new frameworks/technologies and quickly integrate with them for automation service delivery. Able to find effective workarounds to product limitations/constraints. Team worker with strong ownership and drive.
