Harper May, in collaboration with a leading oil and gas exploration company, is looking for an experienced and dynamic Financial Accountant to join their finance team. This is an exciting opportunity to take ownership of key accounting responsibilities and contribute to the success of significant exploration projects. Key Role Details: As a Financial Accountant, you will be responsible for addressing technical accounting issues, reviewing contracts and agreements, and collaborating with key stakeholders to provide insights on emerging transactions. Your role will involve preparing financial statements, researching accounting guidance, and ensuring compliance with relevant standards. You will also support the preparation of consolidated financial reports for audit. Key Responsibilities: Conduct in-depth technical research, preparing guidance papers on IFRS requirements and other reporting developments. Draft and review group accounting policies, ensuring they are up-to-date and aligned with industry changes. Manage a range of technical accounting and reporting queries, collaborating with teams across the organisation. Review the accounting treatment of financial instruments within the group. Ensure transactions, commercial structures, and key business events are accurately reflected in financial reports. Provide strategic accounting advice on complex and non-routine transactions. Lead annual impairment exercises, going concern assessments, and calculate key business metrics for Cash Generating Units. Refine and streamline commercial accounting processes to improve efficiency and accuracy. Communicate accounting implications clearly to stakeholders, particularly those with limited accounting knowledge. Experience & Qualifications: ACA/ACCA qualified with at least 5 years of post-qualification experience. Expertise in technical accounting, with experience researching and documenting new accounting policies. Experience working in the oil and gas exploration sector is highly desirable. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, SAP, and analytical tools. Strong ability to work through ambiguity and communicate clear accounting positions. Excellent time management, organisational, and multi-tasking skills. Solution-oriented with a commercial mindset, able to meet demanding deadlines and adapt to business needs.
