Overview

As part of our continued support to our customer in the space sector, we are looking for a Lab Technician to join us on a permanent or contract basis. The salary/rate is negotiable based on experience and seniority. The role will be based at our customer’s facility in Stevenage and may involve shift work for which a premium will be paid. We are looking for a Lab Technician to provide cover to the Materials Laboratory within the M&P domain in Stevenage. The main work of this package is to ensure lab KPIs for various turnaround times are met by performing various testing as required, ensuring safety and quality at all times. This vacancy presents an exciting opportunity for an ambitious individual to develop and grow their skills and knowledge within a thriving organization. The job holder will be engaged in a wide variety of laboratory activities covering all areas of lab testing work, so lab experience is essential, and clean room experience is highly desirable for this role. This is an area of significant growth within Expleo, so we are looking for new members within our organization who are versatile and dynamic and able to help Expleo demonstrate our commitment to continue to grow our space business. Responsibilities

Activities definition:

Mechanical testing of production test pieces (standard tensile tests) Microsectioning of various materials Microscope work Basic chemistry testing Use of typical lab equipment – balances, ovens, etc. Testing of incoming raw materials to their associated specifications (batch acceptance)

Main Tasks:

Assist in the batch acceptance work stream. Assist with R&D testing. Contribute to processes and risk assessments being up to date. Work in a safe and tidy manner. Attend weekly meetings (SQCDP) to flag any safety, quality, or delivery issues that could prevent work from being delivered.

Deliverables:

Complete testing on time with traceability. Work order sign off on electronic reporting systems. Writing reports for tasks that may require it. Reporting any failures via the relevant quality systems. Contribute to health and safety systems and ensure compliance with them.

Qualifications

HNC or HND in engineering/maintenance OR Apprenticeship in Aerospace/Space or other high-quality production field, similar laboratory-based qualifications. Essential skills

A good understanding of laboratory analyst activities that align with the main tasks as listed. Experience with testing methodologies, including chemical testing. Knowledge of materials testing. Desired skills

Standard Training: Basic Clean-room Practices Human Factors for Space Safe working with chemicals Manual lifting training 5S Practices Working at Height Hand Measuring Tools (M129a) Safe use of hand-held knives (M170a) Use of torque wrenches Experience

Experience working in a high-quality production environment relating to mechanical assembly. Experience working in a clean-room environment including FOD/ESD practices. Benefits
