We are seeking an experienced and talented production manager to oversee our manufacturing operation in a high mix low volume setting. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in heavy engineering, fabrication, welding processes, painting and fit out. Able to drive continuous improvement and apply lean principles, the successful candidate must be adept at managing a diverse team, ensuring compliance with stringent quality and safety standards, leading from the front to optimise production efficiency. Responsibilities and Duties:

Production Planning:

Review upcoming production jobs once clear to proceed issued – identify any concerns and discuss with Sales/Engineering to resolve prior to production commencement. Utilising finite scheduling software: plan production tasks and assigned relevant resources prioritising as required by sales requirements. Plan sub-component production for any underutilised resources to achieve 100% utilisation keeping the plan always updated. Plan and manage material movement and working bay allocation to optimise ongoing works. Chair production meetings with the management team to advise progress against plan, discuss any deficiencies or issues, seeking support from departments to ensure all personnel are fully aware of any impact to output. Lead by example to develop and maintain a supportive, encouraging team culture where company values are promoted. Maintain a strong presence on the shop floor, balancing administrative tasks with hands-on involvement. Engage with shop floor activities and positively impact production efficiency and team morale. Manage annual apprenticeship intake and progress against college requirements. Develop personnel skills and capabilities to continually upskill workforce, allocating less experienced with senior staff to share knowledge via incentivised mentor scheme. Manage holiday absences, working hours and payroll tasks through ERP system. Hold annual appraisals and manage personnel training requirements. Where required, perform investigations and disciplinary hearings in line with company procedure where promotion of training and performance improvement plans take precedence over formal action. QHSE:

Support QHSE management systems and promote conformance with workforce driving improvements. Address and be active in quality resolution to clear barriers if issues arise. Ensure equipment and statutory inspections of equipment are organised, performed and any deficiencies are acted upon to resolve. Manage contractors on site ensuring HSE procedures are being followed. Promote recycling, energy saving and emission reductions to ensure compliance with relevant permits. Champion and implement lean manufacturing to streamline production processes and eliminate waste. Utilise tools such as 5S, Value Stream Mapping, and Six Sigma to improve workflow and reduce inefficiencies. Train and mentor team members on lean methodologies to build internal capabilities. Experience and Qualifications required:

An engineering/technical degree or equivalent professional qualification would be desirable; however, those with significant engineering/manufacturing experience are encouraged to apply. We would also like to hear from motivated and ambitious production supervisors looking to take the next step in their career. Strong leadership skills with a track record of developing high-performing teams. Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities with capability to multitask and adapt to changing priorities.
