Main duties of the job

The Acute Medical Unit and Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) are looking to recruit a Trainee Advanced Clinical Practitioner at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust (UHS). You will need to have a high level of experience in acute health care and have sound clinical knowledge whilst also demonstrating managerial and leadership abilities. Trainee practitioners will be expected to commence an MSc in Advanced Clinical Practice (Advanced Nurse/Clinical Practitioner) under the support and guidance of the lead Advanced Clinical Practitioner for Medicine and our medical colleagues.

The tACP's/ACP's are pivotal in supporting the triage, assessment, and treatment of acutely unwell medical patients through the AMU & SDEC. This is an incredibly varied and exciting role. As the AMU tACP, you will work through the spectrum of acute medical presentations from SDEC DVT patients to patients who have been referred from the Emergency Department resus room. When fully trained, you will fulfill the role of supporting the Acute medical registrar, taking referrals from the Acute medical bleep, assessing and managing the acutely deteriorating patient, supporting the AMU nursing team.

You will work closely with various medical and non-medical specialities and taught procedures to enhance your practice such as lumbar punctures, ultrasound, and ascitic drain insertion. You will be an essential consistent member of the AMU team supporting the AMU nursing, medical, and consultant team.

Job responsibilities

As a Trainee Advanced Clinical Practitioner, you are expected to work in conjunction with the 4 pillars of advanced Practice (Multi-Professional framework for advanced Clinical practice in England, Health Education England, 2017): Expert clinical practice Leadership and management Research application of existing research and contributing to new research Education and Development of self and others

You will work as an independent Practitioner facilitated through learning and assessment methods via clinical supervision. This role involves undertaking competency-based patient assessment and examination in order to formulate a management plan for patients admitted to UHS for diagnosis and/or treatments.

The post holder will work across professional, departmental, and Trust boundaries as required to develop and support patient-centred seamless care, with particular responsibility for participating in practitioner-led care initiatives.

The SDEC service currently covers shifts across seven days per week 08:00-23:00.

Practitioners will be encouraged and supported to undertake quality improvement/research projects to further improve patient care and service delivery. The successful candidate will provide clinical leadership and be an excellent role model for the multi-professional teams they are working in collaboration with.

Registered Healthcare Professional on relevant part of NMC/HCPC register Completion of Healthcare Degree (or equivalent - Minimum 120 credits at L6 or evidence of Masters level study) Independent Non-Medical Prescribing Qualification Committed and eligible for participation in and completion of MSc in area of specialty Higher Education Institute approved course in supporting learners in practice or the ability to provide evidence of supporting a range of learners in practice and promoting effective learning in practice Evidence of ongoing personal and professional development Basic keyboard skills with knowledge of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint Significant Post Registration experience within chosen specialty Leadership qualification (RCN, LDC, Edward Jenner, Elizabeth Garret Anderson, Nye Bevan) Broad awareness of wider Trust initiatives/pressures Coaching/leadership experience Maths and English Level 2 or have recognized equivalence from the ENIC process Desirable

Completion of HTPA Competencies Independent Non-Medical Prescribing Qualification ILS trained Evidence of ability to change or initiate practice Registered on MSc Pathway as an experienced practitioner Further study at Level 7 within relevant pathway Leadership qualification (RCN, LDC, Edward Jenner, Elizabeth Garret Anderson, Nye Bevan) Disclosure and Barring Service Check
