Overview

Our Developer Experience Team (DX) is hiring in the UK. For this specific role, we're looking for someone who values the following: Customer first mindset: We support GitHub’s internal developers and enable them to get their code into production. Our product and thinking needs to have customer first consideration.

Creating together: Getting to the best result is our focus. This may involve input and contributions from designers, engineers, and product partners working across both platform and product concerns – and ideally all of the above. Facilitating collaboration between disciplines and teams is key to evolving the design system alongside the needs of the product.

Psychological safety: Our team works closely together in a fast-paced environment. We need to be there to support each other.

Agility: We work in a fast-paced environment that sometimes requires us to pivot from one area to another.

Responsibilities

Write, review and maintain code in Ruby/Rails for our internal deployment tool.

Help in evolving our Deployment tool to the next generation.

Work closely with Product Manager and sister teams to get features delivered.

Provide code review on internal and external contributions to the system.

Prototype, experiment, and create demos to find the right solutions.

Perform analysis of a problem to find its contributing factors and driving technical fixes.

Participate in on-call rotations. Triage and respond to issues and advocate for opportunities to improve service health.

Qualifications

Required/Minimum Qualifications: ● 4+ years experience in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical discipline with proven experience maintaining and delivering production software languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, JavaScript, Go, Ruby, Rust, or Python. ● OR Associate’s Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Math, Physics, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field AND 3+ years experience. ● OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Math, Physics, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field AND 2+ years experience in Computer Science, or related technical discipline with proven experience coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, JavaScript, Go, Ruby, Rust, or Python. ● OR Master's Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Math, Physics, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field or equivalent experience. Preferred Qualifications: Experience with infrastructure as code systems, such as Kubernetes and Puppet.

You have led development of or contributed to frameworks used by other engineers, such as internal or open source component libraries, styling systems, or utilities for developer experience.

Experience working on developer tools and/or a developer-focused product.

Track record of working across organizational boundaries to deliver functionality.

Experience in auditing a system to identify gaps in legacy tools/processes.
