Job Overview:
The Trust wishes to appoint a locum orthopaedic consultant to accommodate demand in the subspecialty of Soft Tissue and Young Adult knee surgery. The appointee will join the present consultants, providing elective and trauma services. The Department provides services to the East Riding of Yorkshire, North Lincolnshire and acts as a tertiary referral center for complex cases such as foot and ankle, spine, paediatrics, non-unions, and pelvic injuries. Hull is a Major Trauma Centre within the Yorkshire Trauma Network. The Department seeks to attract consultants with a specialist interest in soft tissue knee surgery. This is a full-time post with a basic job plan of 10 PAs with the option to increase to 12 PAs. This post is an addition to the present 3 Orthopaedic Consultants in the unit who provide arthroplasty and revision knee surgery. Main Duties of the Job:
The successful candidate would join the general on-call rota and contribute to the weekday office hours trauma clinics and trauma theatre. It is anticipated that the successful candidate would be comfortable managing acute and chronic soft tissue knee conditions such as multi-ligament injuries, meniscal tears, isolated ligament injuries, and patellofemoral instability. An interest in paediatric soft tissue knee problems is a desirable attribute. Some of these cases are tertiary referrals from neighboring NHS trust hospitals. The successful candidate would join three surgeons who currently undertake soft tissue knee surgery. It is anticipated that a large proportion of the elective work would take place in the day surgery unit and that the successful applicant would contribute to the trauma service and take on some of the complex knee trauma, both fractures and soft tissue injuries.
