Job Description

Based at various children's residential houses, you will work as and when required to enhance staffing levels. When work is available, you will be contacted. There is no obligation on the Children and Families Service to offer you work, nor are you obliged to accept work. You will have 3 National 4s, or equivalent, and will have the ability to undertake HNC and SVQ3 or any other relevant qualification which provides evidence of academic achievement equivalent to or above SCQF Level 7. Responsibilities

You will assist in the creation and maintenance of a high-quality care environment in which children and young people are offered safety and security to grow. You will help children and young people to make use of services and information as appropriate to their full advantage and assist in the promotion of effective communication by and with children and young people. We require motivated individuals who want to make a difference in the lives of young people cared for by Dundee City Council. You will have experience and understanding of working collaboratively with children and young people and their families and carers, along with experience of working with children and young people with disabilities, including close personal care. You require an understanding of young people's needs, the issues affecting them as individuals, and the issues affecting them in a group living setting. On a daily basis, you need to facilitate their care plans and offer them the necessary support and encouragement to help them reach their potential. You will have good communication skills, both written and verbal, and experience of working effectively in a team. You must be able to undertake CALM and moving and handling procedures where required, be self-reliant, motivated, and committed to high standards of care for children and young people. You must be able to do a sleeping-in shift. You will be able to register with the Scottish Social Services Council within a specified timescale. This post is considered Regulated Work with Children and/or Protected Adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check prior to a formal offer of employment being made by Dundee City Council.
