Mō te tūnga | About the role The role of the Technical Officer is to provide technical assistance and support across the full range of work programmes being delivered by the Environment Quality group, including consent compliance and state of the environment (trend) monitoring work. It includes compliance monitoring inspections and monitoring of air quality, land and soils, surface and groundwater, freshwater biology, coastal and marine environments. You will be responsible for the timely planning, co-ordination and collection of data in the field and ensuring that data is managed appropriately to ensure it meets relevant quality standards. For assigned monitoring programmes you will also be required to review and analyse the data collected, assess consent compliance, and report results to other staff and/or external parties. This role will offer the successful candidate a great mixture of field and office work and exposure to a wide range of challenging and technically diverse work on which to progress their career. The ideal candidate will have a qualification in an environmental science discipline. Familiarity with relevant legislation, sampling methodologies and standards, and strong report writing skills are desirable. The Council is a busy environment where you will enjoy learning new monitoring skills across a range of science disciplines and be comfortable undertaking field based work, in sometimes challenging conditions. You will be able to demonstrate strong initiative and problem solving skills, which will be regularly tested in this role. The ability to work effectively when working autonomously, or as a member of a small team, is a must, along with a current full driver’s licence.
