Are you experienced in quality engineering centred around quality control and continuous improvement? As a Quality Surveillance and Improvement Engineer, you will be required to focus on supporting and enhancing the quality of work on-site through mentoring, training, and surveillance. Bouygues Travaux Publics (TP) and Laing O'Rourke, two of Europe's most dynamic engineering and construction specialists, are working together in a joint venture named BYLOR to deliver the main civil engineering works at Hinkley Point C (HPC) worth over £2.8 billion. Bylor are pushing the boundaries of innovation and modern technology while delivering high-quality construction on a massive scale. This is a great opportunity to be part of a dynamic organisation that is challenging the industry and making history. As you will be a key stakeholder in all quality-related activities in the main civil works package, this role will be full-time and site-based. You will need to interact daily with site delivery teams and with the client organisation. As a Quality Surveillance and Improvement Engineer, you will also be required to complete surveillance in targeted areas, identifying where support is required to site personnel. Ensuring Quality Control is implemented, maintained, and improved within these areas and engaging in initiatives that lead to the successful sustained improvement of quality systems and product delivery. Additionally, you will be required to carry out surveillance on activities deemed high risk such as Post Tensioning, Active Anchorage, and Halfen Channel installation, as well as precast and prefabricated works, ensuring all processes and Quality Control measures are adhered to. This role is key to maintaining the Company's reputation for high-quality works, and a high level of collaboration, vigilance, and dedication is crucial to the success of this position. The role involves being a proactive member of the "Joint Quality Improvement team (JQIT)" led by the client organisation. Key responsibilities and specific accountabilities: Ensure routine inspections are carried out by site delivery teams in line with the ITP requirements. Ensure works are monitored to identify emerging quality defects and/or issues and assist with providing a solution, escalating as appropriate to avoid defects (latent and otherwise). Validate site quality inspection records to ensure thorough checks have been carried out and records have been correctly evidenced and documented. Carry out inspections on suppliers' products as required. Carry out surveillance/inspections on subcontracted products and/or works as required. Review products and materials to ensure that works are being carried out in accordance with established standards, procedures, and methods of working. Work as part of the QC Support team to identify where support is required and ensure that it is received. Demonstrate knowledge of technical requirements through mentoring, improving the quality culture on site. Display exemplary quality behaviours in line with the HPC core values and quality commitments, acting as a role model to peers. Work closely with the technical and delivery teams to improve inspection procedures and processes contributing to continuous sustained improvement. Actively contribute towards initiatives which reduce re-work, targeting an environment of zero defects and right first time. Ensure that all work and inspections are being carried out in a safe manner, acting on any unsafe workplace observations immediately. Keep up to date with procedures and works information, new methods, and technology to ensure we maintain the highest standards. Competent and experienced in reviewing reports, ITPs, and LTQRs. Assist in the delivery of targeted quality improvement training, carrying out competency assessments and trade testing. Carry out any reasonable tasks requested by the management chain. Additional Information: All positions with Bylor are employed directly with either Laing O'Rourke or Bouygues Travaux Public and include competitive salaries, company pension schemes, and annual paid leave. Some grades will also include a company car allowance. Employees can enrol in private medical insurance schemes and other benefits. Unless stated otherwise, all positions are based at Hinkley Point C in Somerset. Periodic attendance in weekend and night shifts may apply, for which an additional uplift is applied. Bylor are committed to being an equal opportunities employer and promote greater equality, diversity, and inclusion in our workplace.
