We have an opportunity to join the CFD group at Williams as a Methodology Engineer. In this role, you will be responsible for delivery of CFD capability to the aerodynamics department, either through improvement to existing capability or development of new methodologies. The role will require knowledge of external aerodynamics, internal flows, thermal modelling, as well as process development. You will work closely with the CFD group in development and liaise with end-users to establish requirements and ensure delivery meets expectation. You will be involved in correlation exercises to ensure the CFD models best represent reality. As the role involves a high level of programming you will have an aptitude and desire for code development. This role should appeal to a candidate with strong CFD, thermal, and programming skills with existing experience in a similar role. Key Responsibilities: Develop and implement methodologies to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of our CFD tools and workflows. Work with Aerodynamicists and CFD Engineers to solve technical and engineering challenges and develop technical solutions that align with the wider CFD workflows. Ensure that CFD simulations and analyses carried out within the department are aligned with the capability of the tools. Perform CFD correlation analysis against experimental data. Delivery of robust, observable, testable, and performant processes. Optimisation, maintenance, and support of new and existing toolkits. Working and contributing across multiple disciplines of the CFD group, including process, external flows, internal flows, thermal modelling, and workflow development. Collaborate with our Software Engineers to translate engineering codes into robust applications. Contribute to the day-to-day administration and reporting activities of the CFD group. Provide at elbow-support to users of the CFD process. Core Skills and Experience: Strong CFD methodology and thermal background with excellent grasp of CFD fundamentals. Experience in tuning CFD models for correlation, both for external aerodynamic and thermal applications. Good aptitude for code development and modification of existing codes. Experienced in Linux shell scripting and Python. Experience in C++ would be advantageous. At least 3 years’ relative experience within a similar industrial setting is required, and within an F1 environment would be highly beneficial. Comfortable in a user-facing role. Experience of OpenFOAM is required. Experience of Star-CCM+ would be advantageous. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. Excellent oral and written communication.
