Clinical Research is the scientific study of health and the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of illness. Through this study we can provide better patient experiences and outcomes, improve scientific understanding and medical practices and provide access to cutting-edge treatments for our patients. Newcastle is one of the most research active NHS trusts in the UK, recruiting on average over 10,000 research participants a year into a broad range of research studies. These are supported by over 350 members of staff who are specifically employed to facilitate their successful set up and delivery. You will be joining a varied team of Data Managers, Clinical Trial Coordinators, Clinical Trial Officers, Clinical Trial Associates and Research Nurses. This role is in the Oncology and Haematology Research team based at the Freeman Hospital as a Data Manager on a permanent, full-time contract. As a Data Manager within a multi-disciplinary team you will be responsible for sourcing and reporting data relating to patients who have entered into a clinical trial, along with acting as point of contact for data queries. You will be responsible for gathering patient data from a number of sources and accurately transferring it to a wide variety of data collection systems, both electronic and paper-based. Main duties of the job

Given the nature of the role, it is essential you have developed computer skills and experience of transferring data from one medium to another. A level of self-motivation and an ability to utilise a variety of sources to seek answers to questions are necessary for this role. You will utilise and review patient records to retrieve required data proactively and independently. The post holder will understand the importance of patient confidentiality and GDPR. Given the high pressure nature of the team, you should be able to work under pressure, accurately and efficiently, both on your own and as part of a team. Job responsibilities

To be responsible for the collection of data relating to patients treated within the department, in particular, where the patient is entered onto a clinical trial. Act as a point of contact for regional, national and international data queries. Ensure that Trust policy regarding Data Protection is adhered to. Assist the Trial Coordinator in all aspects of maintaining records of patients on trials and the regulatory issues that govern the management of clinical trials. Provide administrative support when needed. KNOWLEDGE

Knowledge of medical terminology. Knowledge of trust policy regarding Data Protection - Caldicott Guidelines, Data Protection Act. Good working knowledge of clinical trials and the regulatory bodies to include: GCP, ICH. Knowledge of eRecord. SKILLS

Must possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills - able to communicate across a multi-disciplinary team (both verbal and written). Ability to prioritise tasks and demonstrate organisational and time management skills. Ability to accurately transfer data from one medium to another (using paper based and electronic data capture). Ability to collate, analyse and present accurate data. EXPERIENCE

Must be experienced in all aspects of Microsoft Windows applications. Previous experience of data management. Previous experience in a health care environment. QUALIFICATIONS

Educated to A level standard or equivalent qualification / experience. Disclosure and Barring Service Check
