Job Description

Library Adviser - fixed term until 31/10/2025 Central Library - Central Lending and Children's Library Team & Oxgangs Library Salary:

£25,322 - £27,727 (Pro-rata for part time) Hours:

30.38 per week Our libraries are at the heart of our communities, providing book lending services and library-based activities for everyone of all ages, encouraging a lifelong love of reading. For young people, we offer Bookbug for the under-fives, class visits, and after-school book groups for primary school children, along with dedicated evening and weekend support for teens. Our adult visitors enjoy a wide range of titles across traditional and digital platforms, ongoing IT support, and specialized library support for the elderly. Our library service is always evolving, and we look forward to discovering new ways to work with and support our communities. Successful candidates should have experience working with the public, demonstrate excellent customer service, and communicate effectively with a wide range of people. We value candidates who can support families, toddlers, primary and secondary-aged young people, students, and adults of all ages. Basic computer skills, including internet use, word processing, spreadsheets, and operating work-related equipment, are essential. Successful candidates will deliver activities and services to these groups, supporting their team to develop relationships and enhance our community provision. These vacancies are offered at Central Library and Oxgangs Library; however, candidates may be expected to work in any of our libraries within the Edinburgh Library Service area. You must be prepared to work evenings and Saturdays. The shift pattern for this post is attached. This post is regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. An Overseas Criminal Record Check will be required if an individual has spent a continuous period of 3 months or more outside the UK in the last 5 years. An unconditional offer of employment is subject to the outcome of these pre-employment checks being satisfactory.
