School Lane Surgery is one of two large practices in Thetford, with a patient list of over 17,000. We are a friendly dynamic surgery delivering excellent care to our patients and providing a positive and supportive working environment for our staff. We have an exceptional team of Practice Nurses, Health Care Assistants, and Allied Health Professionals who work alongside our GPs to ensure our patients receive the best care available. We are a supportive practice for Physicians Associates and medical students. We participate in research studies and are committed to providing ongoing training and progression. We are one of three practices in the Breckland Alliance Primary Care Network, a group of practices working together to deliver high quality primary care health to the populations of Thetford, Watton, and surrounding areas. Job Responsibilities

Duties will include but are not restricted to: Vaccinations and Immunisations (training available). Understand the implications of vaccination and immunisation and of the contraindications. Advise patients accordingly. Administer to children and adults immunisations following latest guidance/PGDs such as baby/child immunisation, Seasonal Flu, Pneumonia, Pertussis, Shingles, B12, Vitamin D, Zoladex, Depo-Provera Contraceptive and Antipsychotic Depot Injections. Diagnostic Testing, Screening and Health Promotion. Cervical Screening (training available). Diagnostic swabs requested by the clinical team. Agree management plans with patients and their carers as appropriate. Blood Pressure Checks/hypertension reviews. Contraceptive Pill Checks. Urinalysis. Health promotion - dietary advice, smoking advice, alcohol advice, and wellbeing advice. Venepuncture. Treatment Room. Minor Injuries. Wound care and dressings. Removal of stitches/clips. Safely use and manipulate equipment used in examination and treatments. Computer literate with practice patient record system and electronic communication systems. Safely manage hazardous biological substances including blood/urine/vomit/faeces/vaginal secretions. Communicate effectively with patients, relatives, and carers regarding treatment and progress of patients, maintaining confidentiality of all patient information. Manage issues arising from sensitive situations e.g. unwanted pregnancy, sexually transmitted infection, child protection issues, mental health. Breaking bad news and communicating with patients with life-threatening and distressing diagnoses and the bereaved. Act as patient advocate/chaperone. Awareness and provision of evidence-based care. Physically handle patients to assess/treat in emergency situations. Administration. To make accurate records in patient notes on the computer of all consultations with patient, of procedures carried out and advice given. To carry out administrative tasks as required to organise clinics. To ensure accurate coding of records to enable the practice to maintain a high-quality service and Quality and Outcome Framework status. Training and self-development. To keep NMC registration current, including revalidation and working within NMC code of practice. Health and safety. Ensure confidentiality is maintained, that no information about a patient including both medication and personal information is disclosed to any persons other than those employed by, or attached to the practice for whom such information is relevant. Qualifications

Registered Nurse. Experience

Experience of working within a nursing team. Experience of working in a Primary Care environment. Experience of chronic disease management (further training available). Disclosure and Barring Service Check
