Term Time – 0.6 FTE Position

In partnership with Nene Valley Primary School, Peterborough Virtual School is seeking to appoint a Speech and Language Therapist who will support the promotion of educational attainment for children known to social care. This is a fixed term (2-year) post for 3 days a week during term time. Extension of the fixed term will be dependent upon impact and confirmation of funding. This role will be co-located between Nene Valley Primary School (0.5 days per week) and Peterborough Virtual School (2.5 days per week). Nene Valley Primary School

As Speech and Language Therapist for Nene Valley Primary School, you will be an integral part of our offer to children and families. Your duties will include the delivery of speech and language therapy assessments and interventions in the school, ensuring that programmes are integral to the student's education and development. The role will also provide universal support across the school to ensure the principles of Speech and Language Therapy are embedded across the classrooms. The post-holder will also provide training and support to colleagues to ensure that they are confident in supporting learners with Speech and Language needs. As Speech and Language Therapist for Peterborough Virtual School, you will be an integral part of our Inclusion & Engagement Team. The work you undertake is not expected to duplicate the offer provided by the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Trust – instead you will be expected to support an offer which minimises drift for children and young people and provides additionality to mitigate the impact of early adverse experiences. This may include: Screening, assessment and advice for individual children Delivering appropriate support in terms of timeliness, location and resource allocation through joint-working between Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Speech and Language Therapy and Peterborough Virtual School Providing advice and training to social care professionals, carers and schools to enhance use of positive communication strategies and remove barriers to effective communication Children and young people supported by Peterborough Virtual School are aged between 0-25 and will all have had current or previous social care involvement. For this role, we are looking for someone who has a degree in Speech and Language Therapy or equivalent, UK HCPC Registration, and eligibility for membership of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists. You will have successful post-registration practice and experience with young people and ideally have experience of working with children with Social Emotional and Mental Health needs (SEMH) and young people with developmental trauma within a Trauma-Informed Model. You will be able to show that you can effectively manage a clinical caseload of young people with neurodiversity, social and emotional needs along with the ability to carry out a range of effective speech and language therapy assessments and interventions relevant to young people with SEMH needs and neurodevelopmental disorders. You will have knowledge of and commitment to person-centred practice in all stages of the speech and language therapy process and be skilled in carrying out both individual and group interventions, evaluate outcomes of intervention and adapt practice accordingly and work closely with teaching staff and carers in the identification of integrated therapy and therapy-related individual objectives, and will have a working knowledge of Child Protection and Safeguarding Legislation and other legislation. The successful candidate is required to provide references and will be expected to undertake an enhanced DBS check.
