Two positions exist, at the Research Assistant/Associate level in the Department of Engineering, to work on Computational Fluid Dynamics of gas turbine combustion.

The post holder will be located in Central Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, UK.

The key responsibilities and duties are to develop and run computational codes for gas turbine combustion, with one position focused on CFD of thermoacoustics, and the other on emissions and flame structure modelling. Further, to analyse the results to assist the development of low-order models for said processes, to prepare written descriptions of the work and communicate the results effectively with papers and presentations; and to prepare reports and presentations to industrial partners.

The skills, qualifications and experience required to perform the role are a PhD or equivalent experience in the area of combustion modelling, very good knowledge of swirl flames, gas turbine combustion, and combustion CFD. Excellent knowledge of the fundamentals of turbulent combustion and thermoacoustics are also required and skills with massively-parallel computing will be necessary.

Appointment at Research Associate level is dependent on having a PhD (or equivalent experience). Those who have submitted but not yet received their PhD will be appointed at Research Assistant level, which will be amended to Research Associate once the PhD has been awarded.

Salary Ranges: Research Assistant: £32,296- £34,866 Research Associate: £36,924 - £45,163

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 24 months in the first instance.
