My client, a leader in independent consultancy with particular expertise in the field of Ornithology, is seeking a Principal Ornithologist to join their dynamic team. This role offers the chance to work on a variety of projects, providing clear advice and robust documentation to support initiatives across the country.

The successful candidate will be based across the UK with the option to be either fully remote or hybrid. Responsibilities & Tasks Lead and manage your own projects, with a strong focus on renewable energy schemes and commercial development projects. Provide clear advice and robust documentation to support projects across the UK. Liaise with planning authorities, statutory agencies, and stakeholders. Coordinate the team of ecologists and oversee sub-consultants, offering support, technical review, and mentoring. Develop strong relationships with clients, statutory agencies, and stakeholders. Produce clear, succinct, and robust technical reports, including Ecological Impact Assessments and Technical Appendices. Conduct field surveys as part of infrastructure design or construction, although this is not primarily a field role. Stay updated on relevant and emerging UK-wide environmental/ecological policy and legislation. About you Strong knowledge of UK bird species, ecology, and distribution. Demonstrable experience in advising clients on ornithology requirements. Proficient in developing strong client and stakeholder relationships. Excellent communication skills, with experience working as part of a wider EIA team. Strong experience in field ornithology and survey techniques. Ability to provide clear, succinct, and robust technical reports. Experience in technical review and developing a wider ecology team. Flexible, diligent, and proactive, capable of working alone or as part of a team to consistently high standards. Relevant degree and preferably a CIEEM member. Full clean driver’s license.
