What the hiring manager says

This is a unique opportunity to shape the future of AI at GSMA from the ground up. As the first technical hire in the AI team, you will play a crucial role in developing and embedding AI solutions across the organisation. We're looking for someone who thrives in creating new tools, enjoys problem-solving, and can make AI practical and accessible to our internal teams. The work will span from trial phases to full-scale rollouts, ensuring our AI capabilities are impactful, secure, and fit for purpose. We will work to ensure you can focus on what you do best: building and developing AI-powered solutions. We're looking for someone who is curious, eager to learn, and keen to expand their skills as the AI space evolves.

About the Team

The AI function at GSMA is in its early stages but has already made significant strides with AI-driven proofs of concepts and full product rollouts. As AI becomes more embedded in our workflows, the team will focus on building bespoke AI solutions that address internal challenges and create efficiencies. Our goal is to build practical AI solutions that address internal challenges and improve efficiency across the business. The team will grow over time, but right now, we are focused on creating tools that show immediate value. This role is perfect for someone who thrives in a hands-on, development-focused environment and is passionate about building solutions that make a tangible impact.

About the Role

You will be responsible for developing and deploying AI-driven solutions that enhance productivity, automate tasks, and integrate seamlessly with our existing technology stack. By collaborating with internal teams, you will turn business challenges into AI-powered solutions, developing prototypes and scaling successful tools across the organisation. A key part of the role involves bridging the gap between AI research and practical application, ensuring that AI becomes an essential tool for teams across GSMA. Success in this role will be measured by your ability to build functional AI solutions that are adopted widely and add tangible value.

A significant part of your role will be staying curious - experimenting with new AI technologies, learning new frameworks, and continually expanding your skillset. We're looking for someone who sees AI development as a craft, constantly seeking ways to refine and grow their expertise. Success in this role will be measured by the quality and functionality of the solutions you build, and your ability to quickly apply new learnings to GSMA projects.

About You

You will have a solid background in AI development, with notable experience in applying machine learning techniques to solve real-world problems. You've built prototypes or deployed AI models that address business challenges, and you understand the nuances of taking an AI concept from development to integration within an organisation's existing workflows.

You will bring hands-on expertise in programming (Python is essential), working with machine learning frameworks such as TensorFlow or PyTorch, and deploying AI solutions on cloud platforms like Azure or AWS. Additionally, you'll be adept at handling data pipelines, integrating APIs, and working with databases to support AI development.

You will also have an appreciation for user-facing solutions, with experience in front-end development (HTML, JavaScript, or similar) to ensure the tools you build are accessible and intuitive for internal users. While front-end work isn't the core focus of this role, having the ability to develop basic interfaces or collaborate with design teams will set you apart.

You will be naturally curious and eager to learn. Whether it's picking up new skills, testing out the latest AI tools, or expanding your technical knowledge, you'll see this role as an opportunity to grow. You'll enjoy iterating and refining AI solutions to ensure they're practical, impactful, and widely adopted across the organisation.

Demonstrable experience in AI/ML development, including building and deploying models to solve business problems. High proficiency in Python (essential) and experience with frameworks like TensorFlow, PyTorch, or similar. Strong understanding of machine learning pipelines, from pre-built models to full integration. Experience deploying AI solutions in cloud environments (Azure, AWS). Ability to work with APIs, databases, and structured/unstructured data to develop robust AI solutions. Familiarity with front-end development (HTML, JavaScript, or similar) to support the creation of user-friendly AI tools. Experience working with cross-functional stakeholders from across the business, in realising ideas from proof of concepts through to enterprise-ready solutions. Strong communication skills and an ability to be able to explain technical details to non-technical stakeholders. A passion for researching, learning and applying new AI technologies to drive innovation. Bonus Skills (Nice to Have):

Experience working with Azure AI Studio, Salesforce Einstein, IBM Watson X or comparable enterprise solutions. Experience working with M365 tools, including Power Platform (Power Automate, Power BI, etc.). Background in building AI chatbots or conversational agents. Contract type Regular Worker type Employee
