Summary YASA is looking for a Lead Development Engineer to join and lead a small, dynamic team of R&D engineers within our Innovation team. Reporting to the CTO, you will be involved in a range of different R&D projects, creating bespoke software from simple lab kit to more complex test systems on our different axial flux motor solutions. The role will have a dynamic workload and will suit an individual who has a keen interest in technology and is willing to work in a fast-paced environment. Analysing data of motor performance from internal and external data sources in development and production Research and Development - Contribute to the wider R&D efforts at YASA, involving simulation, data analysis and lab work. Coordination of simulations and test data delivery to customers. Interfacing with the customer to schedule data delivery. Generating reports and presentations to communicate information to internal and external stakeholders. NVH testing and development of reduction, mitigation, and avoidance strategies. Leading a range of motor performance R&D activities, most of which would be simulation and software-based. Manage team workload and stakeholders to ensure efficient working and impactful delivery. Train and mentor junior developers and engineers. Test rig troubleshooting. To succeed in this role, we believe you'll need: To hold a relevant engineering qualification (e.g. mechanical or electrical). A strong understanding of electric motor design and performance characteristics including efficiency. Experience in managing a cross-functional team of engineers. Strong electronics and data processing experience. Understanding of electric motor design and performance characteristics. Working knowledge of fundamental physics concepts. A highly motivated individual with the ability to infuse change and energy at all levels within the business. A strong leader with the ability to train and grow a small team. Strong problem-solving and self-learning capability. Good initiative, with the ability to manage own time and priorities. Flexibility in their approach to work, with a desire to thrive in a dynamic and fast-moving environment. Effective communication skills (both written and verbal), good collaboration skills, and the ability to work effectively across teams within the organisation.
