An exciting opportunity has arisen within Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board for an enthusiastic and motivated Specialist Dietitian to join our team based at Prince Charles Hospital.

The successful candidate will deliver specialist in-patient services to the adult medical, gastroenterology and surgical wards, which will include the provision of oral, enteral and parenteral nutrition. You will liaise with the MDT for advice on dietetic intervention to deliver excellent patient care. You will be responsible for a monthly outpatient clinic and education sessions, as required for nursing/medical teams. The candidate will have a key role in student training and will also work closely with a Dietetic Support Worker.

The successful candidate will share our values and vision of an integrated acute dietetic team. You will be joining a forward-thinking group of dietitians who are part of a dynamic Dietetic Department of over 90 dietitians and support staff.

The department enjoys a high profile both within the wider Therapies team and across the Health Board and has good clerical and I.T. support. The department fully encourages continuing professional development. With protected sessions in job plans, we actively support staff to participate and share learning opportunities and experiences.

Main duties of the job Ideally you will have clinical experience working within a variety of specialities and settings that includes working with complex medical and surgical patients. You will be an excellent communicator and have evidence of successful multidisciplinary team working. You should be able to demonstrate your drive and experience of some aspect of service or resource development and evaluation. Experience of supervising others would be advantageous.

To support the provision of health care to the people of the Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board by providing an efficient and effective dietetic service to a defined specialist caseload of patients. To have clinical responsibility for a mixed caseload made up of inpatients and outpatient clinics. To work as part of a multidisciplinary, multiagency team which will include medical, nursing, therapy staff and other colleagues and agencies both within the hospital and the community.

Job description Job responsibilities Principal duties include: To manage a defined caseload, using evidence-based/client-centred principles (e.g. diabetes, nutrition support and enteral feeding). To assess, plan, evaluate and implement Dietetic interventions in specialist inpatients and outpatient clinics. To implement aspects of the treatment plan with autonomy, taking sole responsibility for the patient's safety when undertaking community work. To work in partnership with other members of the multidisciplinary team. To maintain clinical records in accordance with legal requirements and professional standards. To develop skills and knowledge through continued personal and professional development. Demonstrates at all times, personal behaviour congruent with professional status. To promote and represent the Department and Organisation both internally and externally to the organisation and provide colleagues with professional advice and opinion in a professional manner.

Person Specification Qualifications and/or Knowledge Essential

BSc. Nutrition & Dietetics or equivalent Dietetic Degree/Qualification with state registration. Evidence of postgraduate study to Diploma level or relevant CPD in specialist clinical area. Knowledge of current reports and publications underpinning this post. Registered with the Health Care Professions Council. Clinical Supervisory Skills Training. Aware of Current developments in Dietetic practice. Committed to evidence-based clinically effective practice.

Desirable

Diploma in Nutrition & Dietetics. Behaviour modification training or motivational interviewing training and/or skills. Appreciation of factors influencing the health of the local population. Member of BDA Specialist group.

Experience Essential

Postgraduate clinical experience, including this area of specialty. Experience of successful multi-disciplinary team working. Experience of presenting to groups and delivering Group Education. Experience of working autonomously.

Aptitude and Abilities Skills Essential

Demonstrate understanding and acknowledges motivational principles in relation to change management and gaining the cooperation of others. Excellent communication skills (verbal and written). Good motivational skills. Self-motivating. Computer literate with standard keyboard skills. Excellent analytical skills. Negotiating skills.

Desirable

The ability to speak or learn Welsh to a satisfactory level. Presentation skills.
