To provide senior leadership to the nursing and AHP workforce within the theatres and associated areas across UHNM, delivering frontline professional and operational priorities. Provide management and support to departmental nurse/AHP managers, and to support the Clinical Director and management team to develop strategy, implement business plans and monitor quality.

The Theatre Matron is expected to work for the clinical and business success of the directorate, contributing to the corporate success of the trust, requiring innovation and inclusive participation in initiating changes in line with trust management decisions.

Main duties of the job The Theatre Matron will promote professionalism, ensure effective and robust communication systems are in place for patients, visitors, and staff, and actively promote a culture of health education/ill health prevention.

Essentially, the post holder will develop a culture that is flexible and positive to change where staff feel valued and opportunities are created for individuals to maximize their potential.

The successful candidate will represent theatres in professional forums and establish networks within and external to the trust.

Job description Job responsibilities To resolve operational issues that have been unresolved at a lower level. Play a lead role in improving services in line with national policies and where appropriate, take a lead role on the nursing issues related to the implementation of National Service Frameworks applicable to sphere of responsibility. Participate in the rota for site senior nurses. Participate in an OMOD rota. Take a lead role or participate in the development of directorate objectives/projects ensuring that the nursing resources available are targeted towards their achievement. Contribute pro-actively to directorate cost improvement plans (CIP)/savings plans in order to ensure your areas are working within the agreed budgets. To participate in Trust projects/initiatives as appropriate. In conjunction with the Clinical Director and Directorate Manager, ensure that systems for clinical governance are in place with appropriate monitoring mechanisms for their continued effectiveness. In conjunction with the Clinical Director and Directorate Manager, analyse and interpret a range of complex information in order to understand the Directorates performance and to prepare and present options for improvement. To analyse and interpret the Directorates nursing/AHP staff satisfaction survey results and to work with nursing staff to develop and implement improvement plans for quality.

Person Specification Qualifications Essential 2 years experience of leadership within theatres at B7 Evidence of degree level education Evidence of continued education
