NHS Scotland is committed to encouraging equality and diversity among our workforce and eliminating unlawful discrimination. The aim is for our workforce to be truly representative and for each employee to feel respected and able to give their best. To this end, NHS Scotland welcomes applications from all sections of society. Applications are open for this innovative rotation within the surgical departments at University Hospital Ayr and University Hospital Crosshouse. Commencing 6 February 2024, there are two positions available; one 6 month placement within General Surgery or one 6 month in Orthopaedics based on the Crosshouse site. For those wishing a 12 month placement, this will be followed by 6 months in ENT on Crosshouse site or General Surgery or Urology at University Hospital Ayr. Further details of these rotations are included in the job pack. Successful candidates will have the opportunity to work in welcoming, forward-thinking departments at both hospitals. The intention of the rotating positions is to increase doctors’ exposure to multiple specialties before applications to the national surgical or higher specialty recruitment processes. Opportunities will be provided to enhance portfolios of successful candidates thereby providing a competitive trainee in future recruitment options. Doctors within this role may participate in elective work such as outpatient clinics, operating lists, and diagnostic sessions and departmental emergency care. If appointed, you will provide out of hours on call commitments to the Hospital at Night (HAN) rota. The successful applicants will have a dedicated clinical supervisor and will be encouraged to use ISCP portfolio to document their surgical logbook and portfolios. The appointed candidates will be expected to participate in audit, education, and quality improvement projects within the four departments. The role of Clinical Development Fellow allows successful applicants to spend 4-8 hours per week (1 day per fortnight or 2 half days) to perform dedicated development projects whether this be in education and teaching, research, quality improvement or leadership. This will be supported with a study budget of £1250 per annum pro rata. The appointment will be whole time for the duration of 6-12 months (commencing 6 February 2024). A 50% pay supplement will be paid to recognise contribution to out of hours working and emergency duty commitments, and will be based on a salary range of £45,504- £71,550. The posts are not recognised for training. Applicants must hold Full GMC Registration with a current Licence to Practice and have a minimum of 12 months NHS experience working as a doctor.
