What you'll be doing Alongside reporting into the Nuclear Safety Group Head, you'll take on responsibilities within two technical areas: Reactor Physics and Safety Case implementation.

The Reactor Physics area involves: Performing routine physics evaluations and predictions Preparing refuelling assessments for the reactors and development work on Reactor Physics codes and processes Providing advice to the Operations Department to assist in optimising Station performance within a safe operational envelope.

The Safety Case area will involve: Authoring and verifying updates to the Safety Case and assessing the Nuclear Safety aspects of plant modifications. Ownership of the station operating rules and ensuring compliance with the nuclear site license Providing advice on the safe operation of plant and safety systems

This is not a definitive list as the scope of work for the Nuclear Safety Group is expanding and will include the development of strategies for efficient use of fuel during the approach to the end of Generation phase for the plant and shaping of the Safety Cases to enable efficient defueling of the reactors.

The successful applicant would be expected to be involved in both technical areas to some degree following offsite training at EDF's Gloucester Business Park, on-site training in classroom and mentoring by experienced personnel.

Who you are You will have either a HNC or Degree in a relevant scientific discipline such as Maths, Engineering, Science, Physics etc. You'll ideally come from within the Nuclear Industry or have experience with heavy plant systems and processes.

Closing date for applications: Sunday January 26th Interviews to be held week commencing Monday February 3rd Applicants will be required to obtain CTC level vetting prior to taking up their duties. To be appointed to this role, you will need to meet the criteria for Security Vetting which will, ordinarily, require you to have been a resident of the UK for at least 3 of the last 5 years.

The Opportunity The Nuclear Safety Group maintains an oversight of nuclear safety at the Station with specific responsibilities for implementing the Station's Safety Case, demonstrating compliance and carrying out plant performance tasks including specifying reactor refuelling, monitoring safety margins, and providing reactor physics advice to the Operators. Your role will be focused on Operational Reactor Physics, Safety Case development and implementation, working with Design Authority, Engineering and Operations staff to ensure safe operation of the reactors and fit-for-purpose safety cases are effectively implemented and compliance demonstrated.
