Position Summary Based out of New Glasgow or Halifax, NS, the Payroll Accountant is responsible for payroll-related accounting, compliance, G&A and reporting functions. This role works closely with Finance, People & Culture, and other departments to ensure accurate payroll financial records, provide reporting, and improve processes. Additional duties of the Payroll Accountant include but are not limited to: Prepares journal entries, account reconciliations, and month-end reporting in collaboration with People & Culture. Supports general ledger (GL) reconciliation and financial audits related to payroll and G&A activities. Ensures compliance with federal, provincial, and local payroll regulations. Stays updated on legislative changes affecting payroll accounting and financial reporting. Assists in the preparation of payroll and G&A-related financial statements, variance tracking, and reports. Collaborates with Finance and People & Culture teams to ensure accurate financial reporting of payroll costs. Provides data-driven insights and analysis to improve payroll and G&A cost management. Supports G&A expense reporting, tracking, and analysis for wages and other general and administrative expenses, identifying areas for cost efficiencies and process improvements. Identifies and implements payroll process efficiencies and automation opportunities. Supports system upgrades, testing, and enhancements to payroll and related financial systems. Maintains accurate payroll data in accounting systems. Provides payroll-related guidance and training to internal stakeholders as needed. Engages across all levels of the organization to create and promote a safe and respectful work environment. Other special projects and tasks as assigned. The profile we are looking for Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. At least three (3) years of payroll accounting experience, preferably in a commercial real estate or corporate environment. Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) or Certified Payroll Manager (CPM) designation is an asset. Strong knowledge of payroll laws, regulations, and best practices. Experience with payroll accounting software and accounting systems; experience with Yardi is an asset. Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial reporting tools. Excellent attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and ability to manage multiple priorities. Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively across departments.
